HOW NAMI-MARYLAND ACTION ALERT REQUESTS U.S. SENATORS TO INVEST IN MENTAL HEALTH DURING COVID-19! (3745 hits)

For Immediate Release From NAMI-Maryland!

Many thanks to you and everyone who contacted the Board of Public Works (BPW) in support of keeping the $1 million increase for the state’s Behavioral Health Crisis Response Grant Program.

With so many Marylanders experiencing trauma due to grief, racial trauma, housing and employment instability, local behavioral health programs need funding to continue and expand their crisis programs and we'll need your help to keep advocating to protect crisis funding here in Maryland.

We are so grateful to Governor Hogan, Comptroller Franchot, and Treasurer Kopp for understanding the need to prioritize diversion of people in crisis and creating strong and accessible community-based behavioral health services.

However, we must remain vigilant.

Tell your U.S. Senators to invest in mental health in future COVID-19 relief legislation. We need the Senate to:

Provide flexible resources that allow states to continue or expand mental health services like mobile crisis units, peer supports, and suicide prevention
Give mental health providers the financial support they need to stay open and provide care to people with mental illness.

Continue the availability of telehealth services by extending new regulations
Ensure continuity of mental health care for individuals leaving jails and prisons
We can’t wait – we need action now. Reach out to your U.S. Senators and tell them to #Act4MentalHealth TODAY.
