Trump's longtime accounting firm cuts ties, cannot stand behind statements

NEW YORK, Feb 14 (Reuters) - The accounting firm that handled Donald Trump's company's financial statements dropped it as a client and said it could no longer stand behind a decade of statements, a court filing showed on Monday.

Mazars USA, in a Feb. 9 letter made public on Monday, told the Trump Organization, the former president's New York-based real estate business, that its financial statements for 2011 through 2020 should no longer be relied on.

The disclosure was made as part of New York Attorney General Letitia James' civil investigation into the Trump Organization, which could result in financial penalties. That probe partially overlaps a criminal investigation by the Manhattan District Attorney, which James joined in May, into the company's practices.

Mazars said it had based its conclusion on a January filing by the New York attorney general, its own investigation and information from internal and external sources.

After reading this article, I believe Trump may be in trouble this time because of The New York Attorney General Letitia James' civil investigation into the Trump Organization.

Trump has been LYING to the people of The United States of America for too long, and now it looks like his lie is coming to an end. Did you hear that The longtime accountants for former President Donald Trump and the Trump Organization have quit, they just walked out on TRUMP for LYING?

FADEL: So, Andrea, the accounting firm says, quote, Statements of Financial Condition from "June 30, 2011, to June 30, 2020, should no longer be relied upon," end quote. It adds that the Trump Organization should let anyone who has relied on these statements - should let anyone know who has relied on these statements. So break down what this actually means and what prompted it.

BERNSTEIN: So it sounds kind of dry. But it is a fascinating business divorce. These are longtime accountants of the Trump Organization. And they have been with the Trump Organization through a lot of accusations of financial hanky-panky. Right now, there are these two big investigations in New York, including a criminal indictment and a civil case that is being investigated by the New York attorney general, Letitia James. She's looking at whether Trump has lied to lenders and tax authorities about his property value. So it's a pretty dramatic development when the accountants say, everything we said about your Statements of Financial Condition for a decade, those cannot be considered reliable.
