Senate Judiciary Ties On Supreme Court Confirmation Vote. So What Happens Now?
New York (Knewz) — A Senate committee has tied in a vote to move forward with Supreme Court Justice nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson’s conformation.
The 11-11 vote on party lines is rare for the committee but expected as the conformation has grown more partisan in recent decades. The vote was along party lines.
The Senate can still move forward with the confirmation process by a vote to allow Brown Jackson’s nomination out of committee. That vote only needs a majority of the full Senate, which the Democrats control.
Once that happens, the entire Senate can vote on her confirmation which is expected to happen later this week.
A majority of the U.S. Senate has signaled a willingness to vote for Brown Jackson. Only Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) has signaled a willingness to cross party lines.
