Veterans Day (290 hits)

Veterans Day

Veterans Day (originally known as Armistice Day) is a federal holiday in the United States observed annually on November 11, for honoring military veterans of the United States Armed Forces (who were discharged under conditions other than dishonorable). It coincides with other holidays including Armistice Day and Remembrance Day which are celebrated in other countries that mark the anniversary of the end of World War I. Major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 when the Armistice with Germany went into effect. At the urging of major US veteran organizations, Armistice Day was renamed Veterans Day in 1954.

Veterans Day is distinct from Memorial Day, a US public holiday in May. Veterans Day celebrates the service of all US military veterans, while Memorial Day honors those who have died while in military service. Another military holiday that also occurs in May, Armed Forces Day, honors those currently serving in the US military. Additionally, Women Veterans Day is recognized by a growing number of US states that specifically honor women who have served in the US military.

Thank You For Your Service.

What America needs is a major cleanup of our self-humiliating voting system.

This should start by excising the cancer of early voting.

According to 2 U.S. Code § 7: "The Tuesday next after the 1st Monday in November, in every even numbered year, is established as the day for the election, in each of the States and Territories of the United States, of Representatives and Delegates to the Congress."

What part of that federal statute is unclear?

Pennsylvanians began voting on Sept. 16 — 39 days (!) before Democrat John Fetterman’s and Republican Dr. Mehmet Oz’s sole debate on Oct. 25.

For seven weeks and two days, people voted before they saw Fetterman’s performance and either were appalled at his diminished, post-stroke mental capacity or admired him simply for showing up and standing there.

No ballots should have been cast — for Fetterman or Oz — absent that information.

Alas, some 600,000 Pennsylvanians already had voted before they saw Fetterman barely able to express himself. Surely, some of them wanted their ballots back — perhaps enough to have elected Dr. Oz on Tuesday.

And this was exactly what devious Democrats had in mind: Hide Fetterman, delay the debate, and rack up early votes for the Democrat before anyone could get a serious look at how he would debate vital issues on the Senate floor — or be unable to do so.

I see now Steve. This post is about the history on Veterans Day.

Steve, I believe we are fortunate to have a day that provides a national platform through which to show our appreciation for our veterans. But a simple “thank you” at any time during the year is a great way to show appreciation for all our military members past and present for the service they provide every day.

Veterans day has developed a new meaning for me because the veterans are now my family – my husband, brother, father in law, and uncle; they are our friends, our neighbors, our colleagues. They are the people we’ve laughed with, depended on, cried alongside. We’ve shared our weddings, the birth of our children, the death of our friends, and our family, which makes Veterans Day that much more important-it’s the opportunity to honor each other and the reality that we, as military members and spouses, live each and every day. It is with great pride and honor that I wish all of our veterans a very happy and safe Veterans Day this year. You are heroes every day, and I am forever grateful.

Who is they that you are talking about Steve, Whether your company employs hundreds of military veterans, a few veterans or is just now starting to attract and hire veterans, celebrating Veterans Day is a unique opportunity to enhance your commitment to supporting those who wore our nation's uniform.

Veterans Day is an official United States public holiday, observed annually on Nov. 11, that honors military veterans, that is, persons who served in the United States armed forces. It coincides with other holidays, including Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, celebrated in other countries that mark the anniversary of the end of World War I.

I don't know what you are talking but this country celebrated Veterans Day all weekend long. I don't see how you missed Veterans Day, Steve, WOW!!!

Stealing the election, breaking Federal Election Law to do it, is no way to celebrate Veterans Day Ron. You're a damn hypocrite. I'll celebrate the following of our election law, and the the real heroes like my Uncle.

T his year Veterans Day was conspicuous by its absence. Steve where you bought your 2022 calendar veterans Day was on it. I understand your patriotism is low. That’s the reason why you gave that lame ass excuse.

Veteranmms Day was not absent Steve.

The media can't walk and chew gum Ron. Look how they're now obsessed with Trump again. Did you watch Morning Joe this morning? That's what they do. Veterans Day got swallowed by your 2022 electoral claims.

Why are you talking about that, what happened this morning when, what you want to talk about is not the subject matter at all of this blog?

Steve, face it, your level of patriotism for Veterans Day was very low or non-nonexistent, for the men and the women who fought for your right to stay free, here in The Land of The Brave and The Free. Just face it, Steve, your level for Veteran's Day is low and that is just who you are.

Unlike you Ron, whose claims I have no way of verifying, I have heard first-hand war stories from my grandfather and my uncle, as well as my first full-time employer when I dropped out of high-school. My uncle was only 10 years older than me and was an Army officer in Vietnam. He just died last May, and I couldn't make it to the service because it was too soon after starting dialysis. I definitely took note that MSNBC was far too busy touting the lack of a red wave, to stop for a moment and remember our vets.
