
Former President Barack Obama Begins Second Term
The 44th President of the United States and the first African American President of the United States, Barack Hussein Obama II was sworn in to his second term as President of the United States on January 21, 2013. President Obama was reelected to a second presidential term on November 6, 2012. He defeated his republican opponent Mitt Romney by 332 to 206 electoral votes. President Obama received 51.1% to Romney's 47.2% popular vote.
He was born on August 4, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Stanley Ann Dunham and Barack Obama, Sr. President Obama received his B.A. degree from Columbia University and his law degree from Harvard University where he served as president of the Harvard Law Review. He entered politics as a state senator representing the 13th District in Illinois where he served three terms from 1997 to 2004.
