Brittney Griner returns to the WNBA with 1-year Phoenix Mercury deal

Brittney Griner is officially suiting up and heading back to the WNBA after signing a one-year, $165,100 contract with the Phoenix Mercury on Saturday, according to a report from ESPN. The 32-year-old, who was a free agent, returned to the U.S. in December through a high-stakes prisoner swap after spending nearly 10 months in Russian prison on drug charges.
The Phoenix Mercury confirmed the announcement on Instagram Tuesday, writing: "The news you’ve all been waiting for! BG will be back in a Phoenix Mercury jersey this season." In the comments, Griner responded: "Let’s get it! Can’t wait to see the X-Factor! Love this city!"
