Lonnie George Johnson is an American inventor, aerospace engineer, and entrepreneur. He was born on October 6, 1949 in Mobile, Alabama1. Johnson’s work includes a U.S. Air Force-term of service and a twelve-year stint at NASA, where he worked at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory1. He is best known for inventing the Super Soaker water gun in 1989, which has been among the world’s bestselling toys ever since1.
Johnson has earned over 40 patents and continues to invest in thermo- and fluid dynamics and toys2. His company, named “Johnson Research & Development” has invented and patented more than a 100 inventions with mixed degrees of success.
