Alabama State University to Host Open House for Montgomery Interpretive Center (66 hits)

Alabama State University, through its National Center for the Study of Civil Rights and African-American Culture, in conjunction with the National Park Service, will host an Open House for the Montgomery Interpretive Center on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.

The event will be held in commemoration of the historic Selma to Montgomery March and the enduring legacy of voting rights activism in Montgomery, Alabama.
Visitors are invited to attend during two scheduled time periods: 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The Open House is free and open to the public.

During the event, guests will have the opportunity to explore interpretive exhibits that highlight Montgomery’s pivotal role in the Civil Rights Movement and the ongoing struggle for voting rights. The center features educational displays, a documentary video, and a small bookstore, offering a comprehensive look at the events and individuals who shaped this critical period in American history.

The Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail stands as an enduring testament to the sacrifices made to secure voting rights as a fundamental cornerstone of American democracy. Established by Congress in 1996, the trail commemorates the people, events, and route of the 1965 march and is also designated as a National Scenic Byway and All-American Road.

Opened in March 2020, the Montgomery Interpretive Center serves as the official Montgomery welcome center at the end of the historic trail, providing visitors with a meaningful conclusion to their journey through one of the nation’s most significant civil rights landmarks.
