Recently Launched Online News Magazine Geared To Black Americans Seeks
Community Partnerships

(Alexandria, VA)—With the pending presidential election, the unstable
economic conditions of the country, and young Black men dying on the
street in record numbers, now more than ever do African-Americans need a
publication that dissects and distributes pertinent issues important to
the community. In June, emPower magazine was launched to fill that void.

Now a month strong, emPower (www.emPowernewsmag.com) is looking to partner
with nonprofit, community, professional and grassroots organizations to
help fulfill its mission—to not only educate readers on issues affecting
the Black community, but to also challenge readers to give back.

Through the “Nonprofit Network,” emPower readers will be able to learn
about various organizations that are doing positive things within the
community and learn how to get involved. By working with established
community groups, emPower will be able to get first hand accounts of
various grassroots and community initiatives, and communicate it to its
readers. Participating organization will regularly dispense initiatives
(though press releases, media advisories, etc.) to emPower staff for
inclusion into the magazine.

Organizations that decide to participate in the partnership will be:
- included in the online magazine’s “Nonprofit Network” page, which will
list the name of the organization, contact information, and how readers
can join, or donate their time or money.
- featured on the homepage at least once in emPower’s “Grassroots Giver”
section. This includes current initiatives that readers can get involved
in.
- highlighted during emPower fundraising events. emPower’s mission is to
host quarterly “Nonprofit Network” fundraising events either at a physical
location or online, which will give readers the opportunity to become a
part of the organization’s initiatives.

emPower magazine is dedicated to fulfilling its mission within the Black
community, which is to not just talk about issues, but also be an active
participant in bringing about change. Organizations that are interested in
becoming a part of emPower’s “Nonprofit Network” should send an email to
pr@emPowernewsmag.com and put “Nonprofit Network” in the subject line. The
"Nonprofit Network" will offically begin later this year.

About emPower Magazine
Published by Liu Karama Productions LLC, emPower (www.empowernewsmag.com)
is the strong, upbeat, voice that tackles the day-to-day challenges facing
the African American community, praises community organizations and
individuals who are giving back, and publishes motivating columns and
relevant national and international Black news. Exclusively online in 2008
and 2009—with a print version launching in 2010—emPower is an unbiased
online source offering content on politics, education, business,
technology, science, sports, nutrition/fitness, stimulating books, film
and music, the environment, mental wellness, the spirit and grassroots
initiatives from expert writers and columnists. In addition, a multimedia
section of the site will host a blog, a social network, a forum, a
news-related poll and a video library, which showcases seasoned or amateur
videographers’ short documentaries. A “lighter-side” section of the site,
called Literary, will highlight poetry, readers’ travel experiences and
first-person narratives. Podcasts and video casts, along with other
exciting content will be added to the site next year.

The first issue, which launched June 18, featured Sheryl Lee Ralph for
emPower’s “Star Power” section, which highlights celebrities' philanthropy
and non profit initiatives. Ralph discussed the Diva Foundation,
“Sometimes I Cry,” her one-woman show, and Divas Simply Singing—in which
she all established to bring awareness to HIV/AIDS. In the July 23 issue,
R&B singer Mario talks about his “Do Right Foundation” and candidly shares
his challenges of growing up with a mom with substance abuse problems.

“We are at a time in history were it is pertinent to have an online portal
where African-Americans can become educated on various matters and thus
become empowered to take action and give back,” said DeShuna Spencer,
owner of Liu Karama Productions and editorial director of emPower. “I am
excited to witness how the magazine will help shape how we (African
Americans) view ourselves and the world around us.”

Liu Karama Productions LLC is multimedia companies whose mission is to
enhance knowledge, encourage self-empowerment, and promote positive change
within the African-American community through challenging, inspiring and
thought provoking publications, books and films.
