Am I suppose to think black or just think. (257 hits)

whenever I make a decision, which deals with jobs, clubs, cars or clothen, Am I suppose to think as to how is a black man in america suppose to carry himself or just carry myself the way that I feel most comfortable and if I do so will I be judged by my fellow black americans. I live in a predominantly white society in Los angeles area. I do not or rather did not feel any pressure from my surroundings until I brought my black friends over and they keep on coming ...the pressure actually came from my black friends....They would laugh and the would tease...you dress white you walk and talk with no flavor..... help...... what I am suppose to do .... i really dont want to be cought up in the black and white thing ... I just want to live my life as a human...

Dress the way you would like to be treated. If you dress like a gentleman, you will be treated like one. Set the example, in time others will follow.

First be true to yourself. Second because we are black men and women, that one encounter someone of another race has with you will unfortunately in most cases be their thought of us as a whole. Unfortunately ignorance is one of those things that just can't be erase.

i am glad to see that women are answering my previous blog... because the perception that I got was that the dress code attracts the women cause they admire the thug..pants below butt look ...which i am sorry folks i cant do.. i am a professional man and i strive for the best in all i do... i just dont want my black people to think i lean on the white side.... there is one race and thats the human race..i wish that more black folks will understand that life has evolved and we cant leave in the past... lets take our place in the life... even part of a black person is STRONG what happen to our pride

Be yourself! But do take time to discover who you are. In the end it's what you bring to the table..you know your own 'swagga'. There's everything from suits to jeans. Appropriateness is the key. You are a human on the world stage. If you become confident in who you are, it will show! We have to rid ourselves of the notion that to mirror professional behavior is somehow a 'white trait'.

My 17 year old son is having the same experience. He went to predomainantly white school in Watagua Texas. He did not care about name brands or labels until we move into a predomainantly black area in Southwest Georgia. He has been called rich kid, wanna be white boy, you name it we have had to deal with it. So he decided that he would change who he was to suit the need of the people. I had to explain to him the clothes did not define him. he is a handsome straight A student so let them be like you. Dont change who you are, because your friends a mediocore.Continue to dress nice. Remember you are what you attract.

Wow... I am loving these response..some of my friends are not too please with these comments, I have asked a few of them to join the converstion, hopefully they will get rid of that attitude. Chris is one of my best friend and he said if he ever dress like I do the folks in his community will think he is soft, but then again he lives in a totally back area where guns are their best friends....is that the issue?
