no pic for a reason (216 hits)

I don't have my picture up for a reason. I don't want to be judged for how I look. What shade, what kind of hair, what size. What does it matter really? We're all dust according to the Bible. And, if we are so intent on checking each other out physically and materially, how will we really get to know each other?
We're checking out clohtes, shoes, purses, etc. But what does that really say about a person? Besides how they spend their money? And why should that be so important?
We need to reach beyond the material aspects of trying to know others... and really try to talk with them! Stop and think, you know that you could peg a person, where they're from, about how much money they make, and the like, just by what a person wears! And sometimes we want people to know all these things, which is why we buy stoff and show it off1 But sometimes, it's a hindrance... "I dont' want to get to know those 'bougie' lookin' folk!"
"Did you see those dreads?" "That weave is lookin' tired, girl!"
Are we a people because we look good or because we share experiences?
selah ( It means pause and calmly think of that! it's a Hebrew word)

Of course no one wants to be "judged" in any kind of way. But often times how you present yourself reflects your ability to MAKE sound judgements. an employer may choose to look past the supposed gangster's sagging pants and turned hat to find out his true capabilities. But what does that say about what he knows about the psychology of people. Does he not know that his attire is not pleasing to the average costumer? Or does he hope the majority will look past that the same way the employer did?

If you are simply upset at the idea of passing judgement in general, then what you are saying is true. Nor should we seek revenge on others. Such things should be left up to God. And yet we have a legal justice system that does both...

My chioce not to post a pic is not about anger, or rebellion. While it is true that we base a lot of howe we approach a person on how that person looks, that should not be the primary reason we try to befriend one another. Wa aren't always able to "put our best foot forward" in how we dress. Some are going through phyiscall challenges that negatively affect our appearance. Does that demonstrate an inability to present ones's self in an acceptable manner? NO. And we must realize also, to address the "baggy pants" issue that for everything there is a place. A job interview is not the place for baggy pants and oversized slioppy shirts and a social networking site is not the place for a hateful attitudte.

Jones, I am not sure where you saw hate in my last post. A person that has been through physical challenges, will show just that in thier appearance. WHat you seemed to have missed is that appearances can tell you a number of things about people, not just the examples I have provided. Am I saying that appearance is the only thing that counts? NO. BUt it does count nonetheless. You're right, there is a place for everything. Baggy pants is not even an issue to me. It was just an example I used.

Isaac, what do you think I am saying? The wheels of prejudice turn the moment you wake up in the moring. In fact, they never stop turning. If we didn't pre judge things then a lot of us would be in hot water. It's all a matter of how you use your judgement that makes it right or wrong.
