Here's my tribute to one of Memphis finest citizens, SIR ISSAC HAYES. I did get to meet him once several years in my past, and I will remember his genuine kindess. He made such a paramount effect on many people. I'm glad to say he was from my hometown of Memphis. Beale Street and the people all over who loved his music will miss him. Hey, Issac "We can Dig it!" Issac Hayes passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2008 at his home, however his music is remembered in the SHAFT of his songs.
I met Issac at a benefit supper in 1979. My sister and I had tickets that supported a local cause having to do with youth. I can remember his tall height and deep barotone voice. He spoke highly of blacks achieving in music and how he never thought he would be where he was. He also spoke of his roots and his growing up. He loved music and decided to just try making a living by playing it. Mostly, though Issac loved people, and he loved to make people smile. This is the kindness I speak of and remembered most. So, I can dig it! RIP ...
