If You’re Scared Go to Church…If You’re Sick Carry Your Butt to The Doctor (1516 hits)

Here is my pet peeve with YOU PEOPLE:
Why do we wait until it’s too late to go to the doctor? Why can’t we get seen in advance like everybody else in this country?
And for every person of faith (that’s right YOU), why do ya’ll allow our people to wait on a miracle, when the good lord has already sent the miracle in the form of a HOSPITAL, MD, RN, Etc?
I too love GOD, but I think/hope GOD wants you to use one of the many wonders that have been created which are available to you. Pray, but also seek medical attention. Or better yet, go see the MD folks before you get sick, lame, gout, the horrible cough, can see out of your left eye…ya’ll get the point.

I am so tired of hearing stories about how we are going to pray over somebody…who hasn’t been seen by a MD yet. Or hearing stories of how Sister Soinso only has two weeks to live…cause she just found out last week. Stop diagnosing each other in the living room or at work! Don’t call Auntie Dontno, who works as a dietitian at the clinic to “come look at this”. Carry your sick butt to the doctor!
Is that job, man, woman, or whatever more important than your life! Oh yeah, and the emergency room is not for preventative medicine. Get a doctor, keep him or her, and go regular. Use your kids B-days as a time to go or your every time you get your tax return plus your B-day as the interval. I don’t care how you figure out your schedules visits, but pick a couple times of year to be seen for NO REASON.
Please, Please, Please…

I think what you are trying to say is use wisdom for your life. (at least I hope so) and while you are saying this...don't forget God..he is your healer....and no matter what the doctors say....you can be healed if you believe.
YOU have to first believe...
I will say, stop praying for a miracle if you haven't said a prayer of thanks your whole life....stop praying for that cadillac, or to win the lottery...
If you are scared, sick, broke, tired, sinful, prideful, lustful, fornicating, cursing, drug dealer, pole dancer, judger, selfish, self centered, hurt, sad, depressed, or all time complainer, go to church. Get wisdom and get right.
Whew..sorry Dr. Glover you started something here.

I pray over people all the time and encourage them to pray for themselves.

I also encourage them to use good, God-given common sense and take their behinds to the doctor.

Blessings...

Dee,

I'm with you! Pray ...on your way to the hospital. Black folks need to use our resources. If you believe that GOD created everything, then believe that GOD made MDs!!!!

Dana,

Pray for wisdom, but also pray for negative "TEST RESULTS". and the only way to get those results is as the doctor's office! We have to get out of this "witch-doctor" mindset. Miracles can happen everywhere...but most medical miracles happen in the hospital!

Dr. Glover, clap clap clap clap clap!!!! Encore!!! I *AGREE* with *YOU*!!!!!! LMBAO..."...on your way to the hospital." Right? LOL. It's so hard to get our people to understand that God created MDs, too. I wonder why that is.

Scratin' my head...

Colette, you are talking to ME when you say to get those prescriptions filled!!! I don't know how many times I get some, store somewhere, get busy with life again, and then never take care of my business!!!

I'm taking those prescriptions I found in my glove box and getting them filled today! Dang...you're right. Doesn't God have the greatest sense of humor?

Blessings...

Iam with you on this one Doc!!!! Some of us still have that mentality that if we go into the hospital we will never come out walking and I can not afford a doctor. All these excuses burns me up. There is no excuse for not having healthcare! There are too many programs and resources that are out there for everybody, along with prescription programs. I do believe in God and in Hosea 4:6 it speaks about the lack of knowledge. It bothers me a great deal when my people come into the emergency room, wanting a band-aid for their big toe, that has turned black, lost it feeling and has a smell worse than the morgue itself. What is worse, is when the physician has to explain to them the foot needs to be removed and the patient gets upsets and threatens to leave. They still have no concept of not taking care of diabetes can lead to this and they still want to eat and drink what they want to.
As far as the prescriptions, please it is very important to not only have them filled but to take them especially antibiotics (ABX). We are experiencing various strands of virus partly due to people not finishing the ABX it creates a mutate form of the virus. Please take Meds and go to the Doctor (early detection is important)

I think you have missed the whole point of prayer and wisdom....witch doctor mentality? Pray for negative results? Oh well,

Dana,

I don't mean Witch Doctor in the context you suggest. Witch Doctors are used in many parts of the world...instead of real MDs. A Witch Doctor attempts to pray or chant away the problem without allowing God's other medical expert creations the chance to work.

I think far too many of my people go to prayer watches and expect that to be enough to diagnose and heal them ie...not doctor's visit needed..."I gave this problem to God". As well, far too many of us permit others to sit in church 24/7 rather than a suggest or force them into a MD's office for medical attention.

There is no way you would tell a person to go to the hospital for spiritual advice. For people of faith, let's not forget that God created both the hospital and the church.

Don't get it twisted...PRAY, CRY, BEG GOD to help..but ALSO use the resources God created to seek help!

Welcome to my reality. I am the Director of Men & Health Ministries for the Baptist General Convention of Virginia. My greatest challenge is getting Black men to be proactive in matters of health. We are making progress, but we have a long way to go. There are many reasons for the "not going to the doctor" syndrome, but we must get beyond that.

Thanks for sharing on this very important topic. Brothers, please get yourself checked out by a 'real' doctor and don,t rely on the dumb mess your buddies might tell you!

Dr. Glover I am sure you include good judgement as a resorce also. Say like eAT LESS PORK IF YOU HAVE HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE. Go for a walk after eating your big mac and large fries. Do not drink and drive. Snack on an apple and not chips/candy. Help God cause you to live a healthy life because if you are like me, praying to pay that mecical bill may very well not work. The price will go up before God even hears your prayer now a days(smile) Help God help you be healthy and happy .
