Sometimes it feels like admist all of our troubles that we feel like we can't continue on but in our hearts and minds we find it hard to accept that fact. I just finished my family reunion today and it was a ton of fun along with a lot of stress. My family was the host of this years family reunion and it was a huge challenge for me and the rest of my family. But after it was a said in done it turned out to be great! I found out a lot about myself and my family this weekend. Some were crazy, weird, and interesting but the other things were very informing, surprising, and amazing. I truly learned how strong a family can be when they are faced with a challenge. My own mother was the Hostess of the reunion only after having a light stroke only like 3 weeks ago and still hosted it. I found out that my 86 year old granddad can drive up a mountain in a Cadillac all only. I found out that one of my familly members is 101 years old and still looks no older than 70. The greatest discovery was from my cousin from VA, they have found a family tree and other old text from our family's history dating back to the 1800's. I found out that uncles and aunts can be so snappy even though they mean no harm. I found out that my sister is way more creative than I ever thought. I even learned that I can "wow" a whole room of family members when my mic goes out in the middle of my song and I have to sing at all my might to fill the room with my voice. LOL. Crazy I know! I learned that some of the coolest people I have ever met are in my own family and not just a common friend. Well to wrap it up, my sister asked me to write a poem to make bookmarks for the family with and it kind of hit on every aspect of the reunion and the family even though I wrote it weeks before. So here is the poem that I wrote and let me know if you like it or just post some of the things that you have learned about your family or what happened during one of your reunions. I would love to hear. Anyway, here is the poem. Love, Alan
Family
Family is sometimes all that we have
To share with us the future and past
See from generation to generation it will last
Even when we are right or wrong
Family is there to keep us strong
For the journey far and the journey long
Sometime we might fuss and fight
But in the end it will be alright
Because failure is never in a family’s sight
Sometimes it gets hard to realize
That ancestry and heritage all applies
When looking through our family’s eyes
Sometimes it gets hard to see the beauty
Like looking in a mirror that reflects only me
See I am just an essence of my family
We don’t have to have all of the members
To show us that we need to stay together
It is clear to see that we love each other
Come one, come all my sisters and brothers
Come one, come all my fathers and mothers
To a place where we need to be
And that is home with the family
