America the Racist?
A new book by H J Harris

America the Racist?, Volume One, ISBN 0-9748362-5-7, a new book by H J Harris is a personal commentary on the social, political, and economic experiences of black Americans.
The author presents a historical overview of the harsh treatment of black Americans from the founding of this nation to the racial undercurrents of the 2008 presidential election. A factually based analysis of the motives, attitudes, and treatment of black Americans by white Americans in power is a foundation for the book.
The author offers a spiritual, biblical approach to show the damage that the Paradigm of Slavery has done to the nation’s soul. He presents America as a schizophrenic nation torn between a Paradigm of Slavery, rooted in past, and the Paradigm of Freedom possibilities in the present.
Harris traces racism from the birth of the United States of America where he claims that the founding fathers spoke with a “forked tongue” when they stated: “We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal . . . with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
With many of the signers of the Declaration of Independence owning slaves and endorsing slavery, Harris proposes that many of the founding fathers never intended for black Americans to participate in the benefits of freedom and equality in America.
America’s record in dealing with black Americans is presented, pointing out events such as the coup of 1898, the Declaration of White Independence, and the destruction of Black Wall Street, where military aircraft were used to bomb homes and businesses of black Americans.
The author applies the Hundredth Monkey Behavior Phenomenon to get an understanding of how the vicious slavery experience created and perpetuated certain habits, attitudes, and behaviors that continue to impact black and white Americans to this day.
America the Racist? is one of the few books that provide a detailed, step-by-step, treatment of the Slave Making process. Harris’ presentation of the detailed, raw process of breaking the mind, body, and spirit of the Kidnapped Africans will shock the reader’s sensibilities.
An unusual perspective of the Civil War is presented. Americans often refer to the Civil War as a war to free the slaves. According to the author, the Civil War was started by slave-owning southern Americans seeking to consolidate and preserve their robust slave based economy. Freeing the slaves was more of a military tactic than a moral revelation.
A very human face is put on the Reconstruction period after the Civil War. The condition of the newly freed slaves morphed into a new slavery that was more subtle, but just as painful.
The author brings the reader to the 21st Century where public schools are re-segregating and the world is shocked at the callousness of the way black Americans were treated after hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.
Finally, America the Racist? examines the prospects for America’s future. “Does America have the Moral Authority to promote life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness to other people and countries when it still has not and cannot implement, promote and guarantee those same inalienable rights to its own citizens – black Americans?”, states Harris.
With an interesting biblical treatment, Harris asserts that it is imperative to resolve the spiritual and moral contradictions that undermine America’s international credibility as it strives to dominate the world stage. “America does not enter the international arena with Clean Hands”, asserts Harris.

The subtle implication of America the Racist? is that the 2008 presidential election represents an opportunity for this country to rise above the shackles of racism and discrimination and truly become the light of world.
