Hillary vs. Obama -- Isn't it Time to Move On? (360 hits)

First let me just say I have no beef with the Clintons. I've admired them greatly. When the primary campaign first started, I was a Hillary supporter.

However, as the campaign went on, based on what I heard and considering where we are as a nation, it was apparent to me that Barack Obama was the best choice, given his background, temperament, political philosophies, etc. Our political system is broken; we don't need more of the same back room power brokering. That is Hillary's strength, and while the Clinton's have served us well in that regard in the past, times have changed. I’m no dancer, and I’m very old school, but here it goes: you don’t put someone who is expert at doing the monkey in a juke dancing contest.

A lot of people have invested themselves in seeing a woman in the white house. For some, clearly, that is more important to them than the other "first" that Obama represents -- the first black man in the white house. To each is own. While much has been made of his race by others, including Clinton supporters, Obama has worked overtime to NOT run as someone campaigning to be a "black president." We know this to be true because clearly, such a campaign would be resoundingly rejected by whites. This is why the campaigns of Jackson and Sharpton were not well received by our pigmentationally-challenged brethren. Shirley Chisolm was such a shock to the system at the still relatively racially backward time when she ran that, asking voters to grasp her campaign and see her as president was like asking most of them what e = mc2 means.

Still, because of the craziness of race in America, Obama could not avoid the issue, as it would be brought up for him. The pundits speculate endlessly about why Obama isn’t further ahead. They offer up McCain’s negative advertising as the chief culprit, even as they acknowledge how juvenile, dishonest and downright idiotic it’s been. Well, let’s just get real here: the reason Obama is not farther ahead, as I believe a man of his caliber would be, given who he’s facing and what the GOP has come to represent, is because he’s black.

Still, Obama has a higher percentage of the white vote than any democrat in recent times, i.e. Clinton, Gore or Kerry. Regardless of the ire of the Hillary backers, he leads McCain amongst women. Most importantly, the polls only consider recent voters. Obama and the democrats have registered millions of new voters, of which it will be the volunteers’ task to get them to the polls on 11/7.

Some have said Obama needs Hillary because she’s a fighter. First, you don’t rise through the ranks of Illinois politics, which really means Chicago politics and the democratic machine, without being a fighter. Secondly, where was Hillary’s vaunted battling ability when she served in the senate? She did more to enable Bush than to stand up to him.

What about the Clinton’s celebrated political skills? Well, they lost to a rookie senator from Illinois, who also happened to be black. Obama had every disadvantage you can think of, and he prevailed. He ran a smart campaign; the Clintons didn’t.

Obama won this campaign fair and square. Its time for all democrats, if they are truly concerned more about the state of this country after eight years of Bushism, to rally around the democratic nominee and his choice for VP. The choice we face – the possibility of more of the same – in November is bigger than the s*x or race of the democratic candidate.

Good point. Seems very simple: either you want more of the same with McCain or a different direction with Obama. If you like the way things are going, than pick McCain. If you would like a different approach, then pick Obama. When all the smoke clears thats really what your vote is really about.

I know some people have concerns about the candidates stances on war, gay marriage, abortions, taxes, gun control, etc. but the economy is not doing so well. So who is the best to handle this crisis? I think Obama is leading in that department. For one, Obama wants to tax the wealthy more, to pay their fair share, while McCain wants to continue the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy. So pocketbook wise, I think Obama fits the bill. I guess time will tell, in the upcoming debates when we can really get details on their economy package.

Clark, when I was writing I forgot all about Hillary. I don't think about the Clintons very much on the national level anymore, this year anyway. Hillary needs to show the same passion during her campaign run for the citizens of New York. She is the Senator, right? Clark, help me understand why Hillary was your choice in the first place. Beside name recognition and being 1st lady.

Clark, I can respect your stance on the Hillary topic. Actually, I heard that same thing from many people over the age of 65. My father in his 70's sure didn't believe it could happen. But I still need more information on the "street fighter" rep that you say Hillary has. I never viewed her as that type of person. I live in NY and I can't remember anything that required her to showcase that image. And if she did it might have been once or twice, that definitely doesn't put her in the "street fighter" catergory.

Clark, I am 36, so I was around. I probably wasn't as in tune as I should have been but I was around. O.K. I got you. Now I understand your definition of a street fighter. Your definiton of a street fighter (politically) means someone who doesn't necessary play by the rules and doesn't care about the negative backlash. I don't know all the details about Whitewater and Travelgate but it seem to get a lot of negative press.

I will take you up on your offer and look into these "street fighter" activities that the Clintons were involved in. Clark thanks for the widsom.

My greatest problem with the Hillary Clinton campaign was her (and bill Clinton) need to return to before the 60s with the White only and Black only get togethers of politicians to get their campaign messages to their audiances.

This has resulted into yesterday the focus was on a misquote of Joe Biden about Obama being ready for the White house. Today John MCcain is running many sound bites in a ad showing Hillary's reasons for Obama not becoming the first Black person in the White and not a White woman.

What else can it be because Joe Biden has not only supported Obama ever since he has been in the Senate, he kept a lot of the negatives about Obama by Hillary at bay in the main stream media by saying publically when Obama was not there on foreign affairs issues he, Joe Biden was there in Obama's place! Wake UP and get your information from many different resorces and not just the one that makes the most news sound bites for that day. Please for the good of this whole country.

Kenneth X, I am seeking the same answers as you about Hillary Clinton's future in the political arena. How is she going to be able to counter those ads of her's being run by MCcain in her own words about Obama even in her own speech at the up coming Democrat (and may be the Republican convention)convention.

(and please do not let this woman wear a pantsuit)!!!!!!!!The whole world will be against her even being a part of the administration of the Mrs. Obama and Mrs. Biden as representing the females of America as role models in the fashion world of today... P-L-E-A-S-E!!!!!

Let us not even mention Bill Clinton is going to speak at the convention while he can not even say a "yes" or even a "no" if Obama is ready/able to lead the country. Let this man stay in hiding pouting about the Americans get only one vote for their choice of president every 4 years!

In New York it seem her biggest power political players the former governor, and Rangel trying to save his career is now gone..... It seem that now MCcain and Bill are going to be the straw that breaks Hillary's politicical camel's back...???????

Clark if there is one positive change in all of this campaign, I pray(chant) that we get back to the realization that this is 'a government of the people';and by one vote at a time and not dictated by only one source-media sound bites to decide the worth/safety/welfare of America /Americans lives in the hands of.

This is a new age and new style of political campaign in this a new century. We must all meet this challenge together as one nation united or fall to China and global warming...but this is a new blog issue(smile)

Until the Clintons get up nerve to return to their home state and face up to those charges waiting for them by the citizens of that state, I for one will not be able to believe that any of the "gates" political issues have been closed where these two are concerned. The' murder gate' of those two teens will never be closed as long as it is called murder and is still being linked to the governor's office when Bill Clinto was governor here.

There is no reason for them to stay in New York since those people there have woken up to how they got "priced" out of their own historical Harlem....

Clark, I knew you would ask me this question and this is great. I saw this on a documentary when Bill Clinton was up for impeachment. Two teens bodys were found placed on a rail road track like they had been hit by a train. It was later, much later learned that these teens had been murdered because they were seen by some drug smugglers landing with a load of drugs. This drug stripe was not known until after these deaths, and the money for this strip was traced back to Clinton's control but by then he was president so it was brought up again because the Clinton's were expected to have no political power to prevent the legal system finaly coming after them in this investiagation of the deaths of these two young males.

A lot like if President Bush was still popular the Congress would not have spent the past month and more trying to figure out if they should wait until the day the president leaves office to bring War crimes charges against him. Yes I did see the constutional attorney and a female prosutor being asked this by our Congress.

Like the Clinton case in these murders it may come to pass and it may continue to ot be a main stream media news report still, but it is true never the less.

I am never limited to any of the news or things I say like thison this site. It is just I am not limited by cable news for my information. I am sure that this is known by the news stations and papers in Clinton's home state. I just never forgot seeing this as I waited until they left the White House to hear more about this....Now I am expecting the subject to come up again....
