Hillary Clinton delivered a sanitized speech of commitment to support Barack Obama this evening. It was very well done, and even had moments of sincerity. Her message demonstrated that she has a natural quality that bears paying attention to. She knows how to act in her self-interests. As a people, we need to learn how to assess our situation and make disciplined decisions about how to act in our self-interests. That means forming alliances with others to achieve outcomes that don't leave us empty handed. Hillary challenged her supporters with a very incisive question, "Did you get into this for me? Or did you get into this for all the reasons that represent our values?" My observation after her speech tonight is that she could have had the VP position if she wanted it. Her only goal is to be President, and she won't accept anything less. I cannot imagine that if she had called Barack Obama and said "I want to help you win as your VP," that he would have refused. The safest position for her to assume is to offer her support from arms lengh. What makes this a good decision in her self-interests is the reality that the Obama election is still a long shot. If he loses, it will be easier for her to launch a second bid from this position than from the VP position. So, it is my opinion that she refused the position -- in her self-intersts. And she got just what she wanted. Tonight, she got her star polished by her loyal followers, and secured her position foranother bid without losing a step.

Roger, Hillary Clinton's concern is indeed all about Hillary's success. And I agree that she did what she had to do to put herself in a position to secure this position in coming years. I think she would have made a great Vice President, but as a woman, I think she was on a quest to minister to the hearts and minds of young girls and women. Let's face it; she's a wonderful role model for females, leading the charge to make 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling. I applaud Senator Clinton's support for Barack Obama, but we won't be able to measure this support until after the votes are cast on November 4th. In the months leading up to the election, her words must coincide with her deeds. Her supporters can't vote for John McCain because they don't like Senator Obama's skin color. They can't even vote for McCain because they think Senator Obama lacks experience. In this race, the only experience that matters is the kind that speaks to disenfranchisement. The Bush Administration has stamped its claim that it has disenfranchised us all.

This is an interesting take on her speech and I realize how self-centered she is, but I will take the benefits from what she said. As it says in Genesis 50:20, "But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive."

Hillary is white, don't ever forget it. White people are devils...don't ever forget it. The moment you get complacent in this old "we are all God's children' crap, one of them will show you their true colors. I want see if these devils will let Obama make it to November 4th first of all.

Clark, you make a good oint. Running a "scortch earth" campaign can only have one good outcome -- winning. Anything else takes all other options off the table. She has no option but to say she is still a loyal Democrat, but I agree with you that she reall has little interest in seeing Obama elected. She would have to eat some big time crow. It is clear that se and Bill have too much pride to dothat. The latest news is that Bill won't stick around for Obama's speech. It will be interesting to see her body language. She had no option but to stay, even though she may very well want to leave with Bill.

I like your analysis of Hillary's speech. Very insightful. Why would she want to be in second place. I never imagined that she wanted to be the VP. She is a power broker, and being in the senator from NY is a very powerful base of power. I think what you're suggesting is that African Americans could take a lesson in "The Proper Use Of Emotion/Power" . All too often we allow our emotions to direct our actions. It's the action after the emotion that can be so powerful, if we allow our emotions to inform us in the after thought, and let our desired intention be our guiding reference thought. Yes - I completely agree with your analysis. She and her husband are the two most powerful people in the Democratic party right now. Of course when Obama is elected, he and Michelle will take over that position. Now is the time for African Americans to seize this moment in history, and do everything in our individual and collective power to help elect Barack Obama. It's about the black agenda, as unofficial as it may be, there is an agenda we share, it's called "surviving in the 21st century". Naimah

But let me add this. I think it's time for us (African Americans) to get off the Clinton gossip train. Analysis are important for the lessons they bring, but what's the next step. Because I doubt if Barack or Michelle really care if Bill Clinton stays to hear his speech, all the eyes of the world will be on Barack Obama tonight, not looking to see if Bill Clinton stayed or not. It's time to get focused people! How can we integrate these historical/critical events into our own experience in a real way. What is YOUR NEXT MOVE??? Suggestion: Start a voter registration campaign in your community tomorrow! Be on the active side of history, in other words take action. All too ofter "we" are "re-acting" - the Clinton's have pressed on to their new plan. Remember in Georgia when Rep. Cynthis MeKinney was ousted by white republicans who voted democratic! Barack is doing his part. This is the moment people! Time to act with a vengeance. Yes we can celebrate tonight, but tomorrow the war begins. Please believe it! Naimah

Roger,I do hope that Hillary Clinton has been seen for the last time having any ties to Obama and Biden. As long as she has no problem with those ads of hers being run against Obama at this late date there is no way she wants him to win and she not be able to run in four years and not 8 years. She seem to be as sorry for those ads as she is the war that she signed to begin yet talk about all of thoses dead and wounded in this war as if she had nothing to do with it. There is still the reaon she is allowing the public to believe that Obama did not vett her when it is she who asked him not to look into her:health records, her 8 years in the white house or the doners of the Clinton foundation. Even Homeland security said they would have to look at those doners. Barbara boxer our California senator said that this is what was discussed at our state Senator Diane Feinstine's home right after Hillary lost to Obama. Not to mention her refuring to him being killed. There is no way that I will ever believe that this woman cares about Obama or the DNC.I just hope she goes back to the Republican party from which she came. And, maybe her leaving out in her speech tonight how proud she was to be the wife of Bill Clinton may be a sign of she is going over to MCcain????Bill sure has not helped her get any place except public humilation year in and year out... I ask isn't it better to say that Hillary is my leader but I will not do as she says(even as a regristered Democrat)and vote from someone that is on record for voting against woman's right over and over only because his skin color is White so much socailly acceptable??????The only way to avoid this TRUTH is to say they are angry over Hillary not being VP and can not get over this...give me a break in the common sense department!!!! If I were Obama I would put an end to all of this and bring up bill's impeachment and loss of his law liscense. With John Edwards in the position he is is why would one believe that billl's s*x scandles would be a positive on Obama's run for the White House. Edwards' affair did not happen in the OVAl office.PLEASE, grow up and join the real world...bill had three as president that "I" know ofby way of the local evening news ...
