Have we as men and woman of the black community let down those that depend on us to defend them? Have we fallen asleep at the post? Letting our guard down thinking that the war was over. Yeah we won a few battles but the war is still going on believe that. o.k. we lost the last two battles, the war on drugs and operation destroy their children, that one is the ongoing battle and we have lost many!
Now is the time to change the tide and bring things back around to our side. Maybe no one told you how close we used to be, We American blacks, During the civil rights era, we stood together even under penalty of death we stood and said we are men women and children, we are saying that you are wrong for the way that you treat us we have the same wants and needs that you have. We show you every day that we are willing to work for the American dream, yet you devise ways keep us from attaining equal status. you rape, kill, lynch. Castrate, burn, and dismember us at will.
But we will not sit and let it go on any longer. It was said that one man led it, but in truth it was many brave souls that led this movement. You see, Dr. king was our organizer but he couldn’t have done it alone, and not only did we work together we held tight to one another because we knew that if any of us were caught out alone we were dead. But like so many other things that have been thrown at black people we endured it, and we survived. how did we do this? We went to church Rev. al sharpten said something that hit home with me. He said that you could be a sanitation worker at your job but on Sunday you were chairman of the deacon board and the people in the community appreciated you for your work in that position. A lot of our organizations came out of the church. We need to get back to our roots, and find ourselves again. I was deeply disturbed by the fact that there are so many small churches, which alone could not really make a big impact on the community, I counted fifteen churches from 95th to 110th street, and thought to myself can you imagine the power that they could have if they merged into one big church. The police couldn’t chase you down and throw you in jail for going to church; you have permission to assemble there. Have meetings there (don’t pay to have meetings in some rec room have them at your church ) you have recourses, and help there. We should go back to church and this is not even for the spiritual reasons that I agree with anyway but as a place to regroup to reorganize get our selves together and try it again. We need it’s nurturing, comfort, and discipline for our children. Think about this, even if you are not the warmest person in the world, somebody at the church will great you, and hug you and your children and enable you to get the feeling of love that you and your children need. The church even gives parents a break from the kids with children’s church. Can you imagine what would happen if on Sunday no black people could be seen out washing their cars, out spending money, out selling drugs, because everybody was in church, then stayed after church to fellowship, and stayed after that for meetings of different organizations. and the kids are still playing with the kids of other parents there for the meeting, it’s been done before we don’t have to reinvent a wheel but we do need to come back home. I think that this is one of many solutions that we need to look at in order to win this battle. What do you think?
