Many years ago at the Palace of Versailles(just outside the city of Paris, France) there was a major uprising of the Peasant Slaves of that region. The issue at hand basically centered around unfair treatment of human beings. As many of us who may be familiar with the story realize that slavery makes itself known in many ways as did at the Palace of Versailles. Some whom may be reading this article are themselves decendents of slavery. Slavery has a way of dehumanizing individuals, especially those who's intentions are to just serve but yet are treated so unfairly and are never really understood. Perhaps the humans serving at the Palace were forced into serving but yet often cried out to be treated fairly. Prior to the moment that fueled the onslaught of the uprising, the Peasants approached the Palace to ask for 'bread and water', the Queen responded by saying "give them wine and sweet cake". There have been many commentaries on the Queen's intentions but the fact remained they wanted 'bread and water'. They ended up killing the Queen. I had a personal experience at a social gathering very similar to that of the Peasants. As I was finishing my dinner I was asked if I desired a piece of cake and my response was "I'd rather have some crumbs". When the person returned to the table a piece of cake was placed before me and not the 'crumbs' that I had requested. It was a great meal, the service was of high quality but the lady didn't understand my frustration, I wanted 'crumbs'. For whatever thoughts was going through the Queens's head, she obviously didn't give much thought to a simple request coming from the servants. Perhaps what they wanted is what they really needed.
Our Lord and Savior is requesting of us to give him a simple praise. We're so busy getting fancy in worship we're not realizing that all He's asking for is a simple and honest praise. I would hate to see the anger of God go forth because we're not giving him the simple things he wants from us.
