’It is the word given to Moses in Exodus 3:14 when he was called to and approached the rock. When Moses was looking for an excuse and asked who shall he say sent him. God responded with the word "Hayah". We know that Yah has significance. It is sometimes expressed as Jah and has reference to Jehovah. The word hayah can be translated as Jehovah or Yahweh. The word Hayah means "to be" or "to become". When translated it is said twice or I am that I am. I am and I will be. In other words I am today and when you get there I still am. In translating it am we lose some of the significance. Again it is the verb (action) to be. When we conjugate the verb "to be" in the English we say I am; you are; He, she, it is; we are, you are, they are, but that is English. The actual Hebrew is I be. The original Hebrew does not go through that "am, are, is" gyration that the English language does. ‘I be’ also speaks to His attribute of immutability. There are times when we do different than what we are. We say and do things which are not us. He can not do what He is not. If He tried it would still have to be because it is what He is. As I tell people the reason why God can not lie is because if it is not and He says it, it becomes. Jesus gave us the beatitudes because being God He be. God wants us to be and not just be doers. James also made that point. One of the problems with the church is we have a lot of doers and few be-ers. That is the reason so many people go south. It was not what they were in the beginning.
