Does it really matter who's name you carry through-out life?/Wisdom in wealth & Health Workshops (480 hits)

As I was sitting at the kitchen table of this concerned grandmother, we were dealing with something all too common among African Americans. It was my life story all over again being played out in my mind. Her granddaughter whom she has custody of was carrying two names. Now, she is old enough to be involved in things, get a job, make life decisions and it is causing her undo stress. Oh, I know about Jerry Springer's show but, not all want to take that particular route.

However, my story is about growing up with another father's name. I met my father at age 17 immediately after graduation. Little did I know, all of the family and neighbors knew my father. I did not know that I was growing up around my relatives on a daily basis. My grandmother on my father's side called for me on her death bed. I was reluctant to go to her because I did not understand why she wanted to see me.

My great aunt on my Mom's side had me get dressed up and said I was to accompany her on a short trip.
We went into this house that I had passed by all of my young life and entered a room where this woman lying on her bed called me closer to her. She gave me a beautiful brand new piece of cloth and told me to have a dress made.

I was excited and could not wait to share the excitement with my mother. My mother said, that was nice and we had the dress made.
People would say thing to me as a child like; oh you look just like your dad. Now the man's name that I was carrying looked like he was of a different race. I was so confused.
I have never heard my mother speak my dad's name. I came to the conclusion that something unspeakable happened to her and she could not share it, just bear it.

Unfortunately for her, I look like a carbon copy. She said she decided to give me away but, again a great aunt came to the rescue and suggested that she keep me because I would be a blessing to her one day. Well, she and I are still together and she is now 98 years old.

What's in your father's name?
1. Your blood line: it is not enough to know your mother's blood line. The seed comes from the father.
Through the blood line you can trace health & wealth so to speak.
Just thought I would share my heart.
The grandparent is happy that her case will be resolved and life can go on.
