When the blogging community first began to gain credibility as a new media form it was based on the premise that there were citizen journalists who had the capacity to formulate opinions and/or revelations about current news or social topics. The medium gained even more steam when accomplished journalists, athletes, authors, political figures and the like began using the blogging format to further expand their audience or espouse personal opinions that they are normally inhibited from expressing in their normal or traditional capacity. One of the sporting blog sites I write for has recently been excluded from official sporting events which they have traditionally had access to because the site had gone from one which had a diverse representation of quality bloggers to one of idiotic lunatics who post five and ten sentence entries as blogs. These entries usually have no real newsworthiness or social merit they are just asinine jibberish that some of the more lame subscribers to the site post for the sole purpose of trying to capture readers with fascinating headlines, only to disappoint us with moronic content when we actually arrive. Personally, I make it a point to challenge the status quo whenever I write anything, as most of black America has been lulled to sleep by the mystics of their former slavemasters and has become a race of gullible consumers who stand for nothing and therfore fall for anything. This forum had the potential to offer sincere debate and ideological introspection. Instead it has become fodder for moronic, asisnine, worthless jibberish by idiots and fools who offer nothing to the collective consciousness of black America other than to regurgitate the same ideologies, policies, practices and rituals that have caused us to arrive in our current condiiton. Obviously when we have accomplished authors like Karen Hunter contributing and engaging unknowns like most of us, we have the opportunity to allow some of our greatest minds to influence and share informations with the common man/woman, whihc is the real tribute to the World Wide Web. But then we have the knuckleheads who fill up the boards with stupid garbage which really amount to "please pat me on the back for being on your side" brown nosing Bible Toting Jesus Thumpers, who cannot formulate an original thought or ideal that doesn't cater to other blind, deaf and dumb masses of 'sheep'. You know who you are, WRITE something worth reading or discussing or just meet each other in church and you can kiss each other's behinds there. Now don't get upset when I don't immediately respond, I have a track that I have to finish up for release next weekend, but trust me, as soon as I get out of the studio, I'll be back to respond. Rarely do I agree 100% w/anyone but can't disagree w/anything I just read. Especially the "brown nosing Bible Toting Jesus Thumpers, who cannot formulate an original thought or ideal" part. I've almost stopped responding to these Jebus posts as most people's eyes are closed wide open.
Thanks for the description of "blogging" and being able to deliver it articulately. Props to you, brother! People, take heed.

Curly, Curly, Curly....you go! I couldn't agree with you more. This blogging has completely dumbed down the art of commentary because like many things people simply refuse to put real work or energy or quality or excellence into the things they do. They figure they can vomit something out and they've done something. You are spot on!

I am new to blogging. I had hoped that it was a way to meet other people and share thoughtful ideas, hopes and just to know what others are thinking. I am a Bible toter, which is my choice, unfortnately, I am not able to get to church, I am a shut in, otherwise I would do my church thing there. I do not think I can write as well as you and the other professionals but I do enjoy reading what you write, as it gets me to thinking.

This was well thought out, written, your point was made and I want to thank you for raising the bar with your statements. I personally believe that there are different types of bloggers with different agendas and that might explain the difference in content that we see. I can't speak for everyone, but this particular site is much more newsworthy than a few other sites that were built with the same concept in mind.
Hopefully, others will see the same potential that you saw and keep raising the bar up another notch, instead of lowering this forum to something beneath us all.

Curly, now you got a novice writer, such as myself thinking twice about posting something. :) But I do agree with you, some people on here "be buggin." I guess my biggest problem I have with some blogs is the lack of authenticity. However, there are some quality posts on the site, that are developed by people who do not work in the media or the publishiing industry. I don't want to start dropping names because I do not want to leave someone off my list of "top bloggers of 08" category. :)

God bless you. You know you could steer clear of those blogs if you're that disturbed by people who are not ashamed to boldly assert their spiritual positions. I admit that sometimes things can get out of hand (namely when an intelligent conversation becomes an argument), but this point is where the option to bow out, not look at, not read, not consider...just COMPLETELY IGNORE those posts and/or blogs. Plus, I personally don't put much stock into commentary that results in any type of name-calling or labeling. I am a saved person myself and could easily be considered a Bible thumper. However, I've learned to take such comments, especially from unbelievers who are the most likely to have a problem with the Word, as a compliment. So...thank you. The God in me shows through. Hey, that's what I call living on purpose, in purpose and for the purpose of God's glory. Cool. (giggle)
I will admit that I have seen what i perceive to be some far-fetched, nonsensical, unproductive, self-serving stuff in here, too, but I'm learning to just steer clear of those blogs.
Personally, I hate it when people are puffed up, full of themselves and think that no thoughts, questions, comments or concerns should come from anyone but them. But hey...if I'm unhappy enough, I'll stay away from those, too.

Hello all:
Actually I was surprised there wasn't more venom spewed here. Maybe I was not diligent in expressing my thought process when making the 'Bible Thumping" comment. Of course everyone has a right to express their own opinion particularly when it comes to matters of faith. Unfortunately most people who post a theologically based blog do not use the forum for any actual discussion with anyone who may disagree with their point of view or simply have another interpretation of the same topic. A few years back I was invted to egnage in a debate with some PhD's at a religious college. The reason I was asked to attend the debate was because one of the professors had grown accustomed to using my columns as topics of discussion in some of his classroom settings.
Amazingly enough, I was the guest speaker for the incoming Freshmen class of 2006 at Chowan University in Murfreesboro, NC and the faculty there were quite aware of my diatribes against organized religion. Still, individuals who live in the pursuit of true intelectualism and the attempt to garner as much knowledge as possible in our short time here on earth are more than willing to toss their hat and/or opinion into the ring of debate for no other reason than we learn something everytime we speak to another individual whether we consider that individual a 'learned' person or not.
My issue with the 'Bible Thumpers' is that if I want to hear someone blab about Jesus in a intelectual vacum I would go to Church of Hellfire Brimstone Fire and Damnation. What hapened to the pursuit of ideological excellence.
I don't care that YOU as an individual loves Jesus, that's your problem, I am interested in how most religious people view the secular world considering that is indeed secular governments, academic institutions and businesses that dominate the global landscape.
Case in point: I heard someone say this weekend; If Jehovah Witnesses believe that only 144,000 people are getting to Heaven and there are obviously more than 144,000 practicing Jehovah Witnesses worldwide, then why are they still going around knocking on people's doors every day recruiting. Couldn't it be possible that they may be recruting someone to take their slot in heaven.
I know that is kind of a humoorus thought, but when you break it down to the practicality of it...seriously why are they still recruiting people?
Ms. Gray...shallow...well everybody's entitled to their own opinion, but allow me to paraphrase the words of a famous and respected African American philosopher who shall remain nameless for the time being. This individual once said..."I hope that when all these black American Christians get to their so-called Heaven, there are a hundred slaves waiting there to beat Christianity out of their a**es the same way Christianity was beat into them by their slave masters.
Don't get me started on the lunacy of black American Christians. I have pretty much said my peace on that subject previously and left you all to your own vices. But belive you me I completely echo the sentiments of the author of that statement.
Like I always said, I guess we should thank the Europeans for slavery, because at least we got Jesus out of the deal.
Now formulate an original thought to that....My Sister.

Curly, I like you. I do. And I'm not particularly bothered by your diatribes. I find them humorous and tragic at the same time. I feel sorry for you Curly. I mean seriously, what if you're wrong about what you believe and you die? It's just a question.
I find that most people who don't know why they believe what they believe would want to put their dukes up. ...not me. There's no need for me to fight. I can overcome anything because I serve a God, who in the flesh, overcame EVERYTHING. There's a certain comfort, confidence and assuredness that comes with having that etched on my soul. I belong to greatest King in the world...to the I am that I am.
And like I said before...I just plant seeds, my brother. I don't attempt to force cultivation. Here's a seed about the though that Jesus is a fairy god father or that we don't go anywhere after we die:
Hebrews 9:27-28
27Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
BTW, Curly-- do you consider yourself a secular humanist, an atheist or what?

Ain't that something? Look, I love the Lord, and I don't hate you because you don't. I wonder if you've ever prayed and became bitter because you perceive that your prayer wasn't answered. (I bring this up because I've found that when folk are SO "hell bent" on God being a joke, it's usually because they requested something very deep and life-altering FROM God once upon a time in their lives...and didn't get it). I'm not saying that's the case with you...just asking a question, Brother. I'm praying for you, Curly, and there's nothing you can do about it! (giggle) ;-)
And please say that quote didn't come from Elijah Muhammed. Please, say it ain't so. (It sounds like something he would say).

Curly, before I came to this site, I was never able to accept the idea that there could have been such a thing as a "happy slave" as this had to be a myth. I no longer believe that there were no 'happy slaves" dedicated to working themselves to an early death to get that bigger reward in heaven.
It pisses me off but I still have to accept this as being true.
It was not a Black philosopher who said, "I think therefore I am" but I do accept my need to do my own thinking which totally resist any form of this kind of DEPENDANT mind control.
