I am working here in Lexington, KY for the Democratic National Committee as a proud delegate. I was one of the fortunate Democratic Delegate’s to travel to Denver and attend this year’s Democratic National Convention. While there and what most people never saw on television were the meetings among national delegates about helping Barack Obama win this year’s election. One of the main concerns brought up was the African American vote. As of today there are still over 8 million unregistered African American voters for this year’s election. This is puzzling to me, but I have experience firsthand the answer to this dilemma. It comes down to ignorance about how important this election is to our people. Each one of us as African Americans should be working overtime trying to register as many non registered African American voters as possible to vote in this year’s election. If you want to see how racist society can be just Google, “Would you vote for a Black President,” or “African American registered voters,” and you will be shocked in the answers that will come back to you.
Rush Limbaugh came out and said today on his talk show concerning gaining African American voters for the Republican Party and he stated, “Republicans don’t really need the Black vote because statistics have shown us that they never really vote anyway to cause a problem in the election.” Then he said,” Look at their leaders like Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton they can’t even get their own people to support a black man.” Now to me that statement is a problem. He believes like most Caucasian Americans believe the premises that African American are not willing to stand up for social causes but only complain when things don’t work out for them. We need to show America, “That Yes We Can Make a Difference in this Election.” I ask each one of you on this site, “What have you done to make sure that your fellow African Americans are registered to vote?” Also I would like to know, “How do you feel about voting in America?” We can’t let this opportunity past us because of our own laziness and self denial that we can truly make a difference with our vote. Obama truly needs every one of us. Can you help? Now I would like to let people know how they are going to try to still this race. If you have moved since the last election or haven’t voted since the 1998 election then you are not eligible to vote in this year’s election. Call your county clerk’s office to check to see that you eligible to vote and what precinct you must attend to vote. Feel free to add your comments.
