Hip Hop in Black America (301 hits)

At one point African Americans in the Hip Hop music industry had little if any control of the distribution. Of the music they played ,and as a result African Americans were exploited by people who cared very little for our culture or the damage that they would do to our people,by promoting a brand of music so destructive spiritually ,and socially that no other form of music in the history of mankind could compare to it. It's the only music that the fan base is encouraged not to have love for each other, but in fact in some cases kill each other. Even Nazi hate songs didn’t suggest that they hate each other or senselessly kill other Nazi's, but that is the case with some styles of Hip Hop, and at one time you could peddle this plague on our people by saying‘ our young people are just expressing how it is growing up in the hood; it’s the world we live in, and so on, And we as a people stood back and said nothing. There were no calls from African American leaders back then warning of the impending danger to us all that was about to come. Though many in other communities sound the alarm; mostly out of fear that it would spread to their children. Yet we looked the other way. We reasoned that so many young black males would get a chance to get out of the hood, and reap the financial rewards of a successful music careers, that the good would out weight the bad. Well fast forward to the future; at this point African Americans are moguls in the music industry, and have the power to unite and change the course of our musical history back to one of joy and hope. The challenge is even greater now because many. African Americans with power in the Music Industry have learned exploitation from the very best ;now we have members of our own community taking the lead in the undermining of their own peoples spirituality. They want us to believe that God given talent is what they say it is. Not that the gift of music is the song of our spirits, and our hearts can create melodies of love or hate. Its not that they don’t love their people ,just that the love of money, and the promise of kingdoms has clouded their judgment in many cases. Not to mention that we as a people have not stood up and taken an spiritual stand. The music, and other forms of entertainment reflects the spiritual condition of the people it represents, and the type of entertainment that we are allowing are children to be exposed to shows that we are in an spiritual, and moral dilemma. We can no longer stand by, and let our own as well as others our outside of our community continue to use a small part of our culture to highjack the Black entertainment, and merchandising market for their own valueless greed. Our music is the sound tracks of our lives, and we as a people should make sure it’s one of love ,and hope Jesse L Turner

This is one of the realest post about Hip Hop and the men and women that it effect that I have read. Love and hope seem to be words that have the vocabulary of our communities and it's time to bring those back into existence.

MJ great question!! JT awesome blog, dude!!!! EB I agree. My son listens to hip-hop and rap, and I must say the groove is too cool. The sound is the first thing that hits you. Where I tend to say, "shut it off" is when I hear things about carrying guns, violence, "pimping hoes", get rich even if you have to take it by force, type messages. I am so thankful to the christian music community that has allowed a forum for christian rap and hip-hop music with a possitive message of love and encouragement. If money were of no importance, would the messages change? If the answer is "no", then it is another issue altogether. Find the root of the real problem and the answers should soon manifest. Ignorance is a HUGE problem, no matter the race. Ignorance is not stupidity, it is lack of knowledge and understanding. The freedom of speech is not the problem, the will to choose whether or not to listen and consider the possibilities and choosing not to participate that is. God doesn't force us to come to Him, we cannot force change in others either. Manipulation is in the enemy's toolkit. Love, compassion, patience, perserverance, peace, hope, sincerity, and all else in this creation are in our toolkit. A lesson we can learn from the music itself, perhaps, is that they know what they are saying, and they say it proudly. Daddy says...Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. If you should begin to see answers to your question, let me know. Remember, we are to be as "wise as serpents, gentle as doves". GB

PS. note on "get rich even if you have to take it by force".... Daddy says, Give and it shall be given unto you, pressed down, shaken together, running over. It is better to give than to recieve. Theft is wrong. Giving is God's will. Give them more to say. If they see "it is good", like God they just might say, "it was so" or at the very least "amen". (which means "let it be done") GB

This is a good post. Hip hop is real and necessary because for many, it tells the story of their lives. When you break down the message inside of hip hip, the characters within the walls of that music are real for the people who most enjoy it. If you really take time to listen and feel it, you’ll see that it’s just like any other genre of music. Each one touches a segment of the community and plays an important role.
