What price progress? (247 hits)

I noticed a few ads scrolling across the top of the site and as I looked up I saw one for the Maury Povitch show. Why? What does this show do that's positive and uplifting? What is so wonderful and encouraging about babymomma/babydaddy drama, cross dressers and spying on cheating lovers?

Is this site so hard up for advertising that this poison is being advertised on the site? It reminds me of the overwhelming amount of ads for products like Newport Cigarettes and Olde English 800 on billboards pervading the hood! Are we so desperate for money that we will take it from ANY source? How can we complain about not having enough positive role models in the hood, when we welcome and even spend money on so many negative ones?
We should endeavor to bring more positive types of advertising onto the sitea and into our neighborhoods, and to do the latter takes money. We should take steps to insure that our dollars aren't being ignored by advertisers.... just a thought or two ....

the thing about accepting advertising dollars is... by taking the money to advertise the produdct or sevice, you are giving your implicit approval for the service or product giving you the money. For example... when South Africal was not controlled by the black majority... many companies in the US. divested from investing in that Country's products and services... because to invest in that country's products and services was to say..."hey we don't care how you treat your people, we want to make money..."

The basis for economic sanctions is to recognize that how a government, or company treats its people or promotes itself is just as important as the money that is made from the fproduct... now the ad I was reffering to was a banner ad across the top of the site, above the heading... it's gone now, replaced by a reminder to REGISTER AND VOTE.

No, I don't was was making a point about putting your money where your beleifs are. I think that now we SHOULD invest in SA. I think we should invest in soujnd financial practises and support those that are ethically sound as well.
