As a representative of the Democratic National Committee, I am chairman for getting out the vote in Lexington KY. Each election Black America doesn’t come out to vote like we should, but this year we need to all vote. Now things you need to know are listed below, because Obama being African American, the Republican National Committee are preparing for the African American Voters. Misconceptions have plagued Black America when voting because people are not informed of the new laws of the land. I have heard everything from, "If I vote, I will be called to Jury Duty," "My vote don't really count, they are going to do what they want anyway," "If I vote, they are going to kill Obama," all these excuses are just silliness on our behalf. Remember that Martin Luther King Jr. and many other civil rights participants gave their lives to allow us this freedom to vote. Did they die in vain? I hope not! We as people must now reunite to do what King and other's wanted us to do; which is to Vote. I have listed what I know you should look out for this year during this election season.
The things to watch out this year are the following;
1. Getting letters saying your party affiliation have been changed.
2. Making sure that if have married or changed your name since the last election that you are still registered to vote.
3. If you have moved since the last election to another zip code, you must re-register to vote.
4. If you have not voted since 2003 election, you may have been purged from the voter registration department.
5. Making sure you choose what party you are registering for: If no mark is made, you will be considered an Independent.
6. If it rains on Election Day. You MUST STILL GO VOTE. Some people got calls telling them the date was moved.
7. Make sure your friends and family member are registered to vote.
8. If you know your job want let you go vote or you know an elderly person who can't go out to vote the rule is that as long as you are registered, you can still vote by absentee ballot.
9. If you have a felony or know someone with a felony, they must write to their governor about being able to vote. Most states are now allowing felons to vote after this process. Remember that you must go to your County Clerk office to do this process.
10. The Deadline to register to Vote is Oct. 6, 2008 nationally
11. The Deadline for Absentee Voting is Oct. 24, 2008 nationally
You can find out if you are "REGISTERED TO VOTE" by just calling your local county clerk office in your city.
LET'S ALL MAKE A DIFFERENCE THIS YEAR BY VOTING!!!!
