Why white America perhaps fears Michelle Obama more than Barack Obama (319 hits)

This was passed to me by a friend, it makes sense why White America is more afraid of Michelle than Barack.
Excerpts from a 'Jack & Jill politics' newsletter: ...as hard as it is to accept a black president, it's even harder to accept a black first lady. First Lady has always held a beloved sentimental mother/wife of the nation symbolism. Conservatives are not ready to have to look at this very BLACK woman with her degrees and her fierceness and see her as the epitome of the American mother/wife. This will be a first for white people.. They do not want this black woman in the Whitehouse as their first lady. That New Yorker cartoon was [actually] about Michelle - she was its focal point...look closely... she is the leader, the one starting the "revolution" they want you to imagine.... MSNBC 's Chris Matthews said, in the course of covering the Obama candidacy, 'He ( Barack Obama ) brings none of the20' bad stuff, you know?" By 'Bad Stuff', he meant the legacy of [whites] enslaving Africans in this country, keeping them as second-class citizens until 1965, a mere 11 years before this country celebrated its 200th anniversary. You know, 'the original sin', or ' the birth d efect', as ; Condi Rice called it. Barack escapes this 'bad stuff' only because his mother was white and may have had ancestors involved in the slave trade; and also because Barack's father was not African American . He was full blooded African and therefore Barack had no ancestors enslaved by America - and so the white guilt factor is missing when they think of him. HOWEVER, NO SUCH LUCK WITH MICHELLE! Michelle
Obama is a direct threat and lightening bolt against White Superiority. Because, she is “Black and VISIBLY BLACK”. But it's important to note, she does not, in any way, shape, or form, contour to the acceptable Black Pathologies that enable White Supremacy to sigh with relief. [that she is Welfare mother, fatherless child, druggie, etc.] Michelle was raised in a neighborhood with “TWO” parents. No child revolving in and out of jail. She was raised by a Black man; whom not only provided for his family, but did it through working with an “DISABILITY”. Her mother had a working class job - secretary- but it was taken ONLY after she had seen her youngest child settle into HIGH SCHOOL. Michelle Obama's poise, her confidence, her aura - that was created by that humble Black man, who by all accounts, adored her. He told her that at she is worthy, and so, when you have that told to you by the first man who loves and protects you, you seek that validation of that in your choice of mate, you'll settle for nothing less, and Michelle hasn’t. Michelle Obama doesn't fit any of the acceptable Black pathologies. And when you don't fit the acceptable Black pathologies, then you must be destroyed. Michelle Obama has become the face of the Black America whose existence is routinely denied by this country. Think about it. In ONE generation, the face of this ’Invisible America' has gone from living on the top floor of a bungalow, to the possibility of living in The White House. And yet, Michelle Obama, refuses to say “I’ m special", in order to give white America its usual security blanket [that she is one of the exceptions rather than the rule], so what should be done? Beat her down into submission.
Michelle Obama represents everything we black women want our daughters to be. When we stand up for her we stand up for ourselves. No other women in the world are more neglected and abused as African women period. Michelle looks like [our] daughters, her daughters look like us. We love the way Barack looks at her we adore the way he looks at his daughters. The Obama’s represent the hope in the Black Community, that we can be love d by our men and they will support us in whatever we do in life. Little African American girls need a vision and dream of what it is like to be loved by a man who looks just like them. Is America ready for a First Lady who looks like her and is an regular black woman? Not a passable biracial curly haired girl that they call black, but a regular black woman, from the south side of Chicago, with dark skin? Is she going to be the face of The Woman on the largest pedestal in the country and self-confessed "loud-mouth" black woman? If the Obama's succeed, it turns white supremacy upside down; not because a black man is in the White House ; but, because a black woman will be there who didn't have to come in the back door to lie in bed with the president. Please share what you think about this thread.

if you notice the obama campaign it self tries to keep the image of michelle obama to a minimum. i've complained several times about their youtube page and not posting videos of michelle. even if they do they are very short and they make sure to cut in video of young white women instead of michelle. it disturbs me. i really wish the campaign could be unapologetic but don't want to get beat down for expecting anything from the obama campaign.

Wow,
This is heavy perspective and brings a lot of truth to the matter. What a way to break down the social constructs of the American way of life, when it comes to race and politics. America/White Americans fearing Michelle's rightful position is the opposite of Black women Ancestors who endured rape and foul treatment. I see it as a change around, and maybe even justice to Black woman Ancestors who were treated that way. Also, to the Black women are still treated this way.

Black women are safe and empowered by her image. I once said that Black women are the savior of Black men who have been dis-empowered by the system. I see this in Barack as he lovingly looks into her eyes, and his daughters eyes. This is not a "Baby boy" type of thing. It is the reality that their is a special and kindred connection between Black women and men.

Michelle will be there, and be strong.

yes, I agree with Lattimore..I tried to find a pretty picture of Michelle on Yahoo, and they intentionally put the unattractive pictures where she is caught off guard..and looks mean, and her hair is unruly ..I got mad..and all the stuff about her thesis...trying to attack his Achilles heel..they don't know that man will rise and you will see another part of him, if they keep messing with his wife..Like Star Jones said, if they come for Michelle? they are going to have to come for all of us! However, the Obama campaign is the BADDEST group of folks coming together to make this history, yes and I would advise anyone not to say anything negative if they are not VOLUNTEERING an just talking..but not walking nawmean?

Any one who says, why didn't they do this or that? well they have done thousands of things..so I guess since he is the candidate..we can safely assume they know what they are doing..Obama did not just get up and say I am going to be the candidate and voila!! Lots of folks, busting their behinds to make this happen..lots and not enough Blacks ok? yeah," ama" stay on your grind folks..

Yalanda, be happy in every thing having to do with Michelle Obama as she represents what is in our future not what is happening at this moment in racism to keep us unable to see just how far we have come in over 300years.

The Obama's have only been campaigning for 2years and look at what our people have already gained that we have not been able to do in fifty years of trying. for the next 8 years Michelle Obama will be the fashion leader. A first lady that all want so be like.Something not done since Jackie Kennedy.

The Kennedy's were called Camelot. Michelle says that they will be Camelot in the White House with a tan then flashed that beautiful grin of hers to the media. We my sister are almost there in the White house. Just be patient for a little longer. OK?(smile)

And, the mass media in all forms will be a part of this 'change' as this is going to be Obama Nation for years and years to come.Keep the faith my sisters and brothers.
