People,
I found this article on the Internet. I have learned that in Sacramento, CA, there is graffiti being used as a tool of hate against Obama. Those of you who are in this part of the country can make calls to local law enforcement agencies and the like to report this and complain about it if you feel moved to do so. Words are powerful, as well as images. We have to keep moving and fighting. Read this article below:
Racially-Charged Obscenities Sprayed on Obama Sign
CARMICHAEL, CA - A Carmichael couple who had recently grabbed the attention of local drivers along Fair Oaks Boulevard near Garfield Avenue with their can't miss Obama fence signage is now forced to paint over parts of the fence due to racially charged vandalism.
Vandals spray-painted "KKK" and obscenities on the fence sometime early Tuesday morning.
In anticipation of the upcoming presidential election, the two men had decided a few weeks ago to paint the name "Obama" nine times along their property fence line which faces busy Fair Oaks Boulevard.
Matt Martinez said that he and his partner Ted Russert had planned to repaint the fence anyway, and started thinking about what they could do to it.
"It was the perfect canvas," Martinez. "It's a big stretch of white. It's Fair Oak Boulevard. It's a busy road. There's a lot of traffic. We thought, 'Hmm.'"
Now the couple is left thinking who would deface the signage with hate words.
"It's just shocking to me that we have people in our society that will do this to either party's signs. We do have free speech and we're very proud of that in this country," Russert said Tuesday morning. "For anybody to want to take that free speech away, it is amazing to me that we have people like that in our society in this day and age."
Russert said he and Martinez will repaint over the graffiti and leave the original message up through the election, as they had previously planned.
