WE MUST NEVER FORGET: The Civil Rights Movement Then and Now (557 hits)

Recently, I chatted with iZania.com Founder and CEO Roger Madison about his recollection of the Civil Rights Movement. You can listen to this interview at blogtalkradio.com. The information that was shared during this interview is extraordinary, and my hope is that it motivates us to explore the past so that we can chart brighter futures for ourselves and others.

I would not only look at it as a black and white issue but an issue that Obama knows what it is like to struggle ethnically, financially and in society. I feel having someone in the White House that has gone through some things can acknowledge and handle the issues Americans are facing today.

Jeffery,
Thanks for the opportunty to chat with you. For those of us old enough to remember the sruggle of the last generation, it is imperative that we pass along those lessons and experiences. We are so pre-occupied with consumption, we don't often have time nowadays to just talk. Thanks for inviting me. I really enjoyed the conversation.

I had the chance to meet and hear Al Sharpton today preach a sermon. I was sooo enlightened it brought me to my feet in tears. He talked about the civil rights movement and all the sacrifices people had to make in order for people of color to be where they are today. He talked about Martin Luther King and Barack Obama and the importance of faith. No we should never forget slavery or the civil rights movement. In fact the battle is not over. I talk to my grandmother all the time about what she experienced growing up and during the civil rights movement. I am definitely doing my part to not forget the civil rights movement.

As someone who took part in the Civil Rights movement, the only difference in today(what I call the Obama Movement)are the followings:
1.The movement today is being carried out over the internet and by way of politicians as well as the minority/oppressed all over this planet to draw attention to our laws already on the books not being enforced.

2.(It is my belief )that those ropes on that school ground in Jena 6 was the sit down strike in North Carolina in the 60s. A new Wake Up Call for the Black community!Or, Jim Crow is back in full force...

The weapons used in this movement will not be our physical body in the streets but our votes on November 4, 08.

I believe that everyone who took part in the 60s pro / con are saying the same thing right now..."I never thought that I would ever live to see this"!...Barack Hussein Obama!!!!!But, Obama like Dr. King is here in the right place, at the right time to force racism to take a back seat for the moment.

Thank you Jeffery.

Cheryl, I wish that this was limited to only a Black, White issue, but according to the ideals being handed out by McCain-Palin and backed by far too many, this is about any one/thing that the Conservative deem as not acceptable to their religious, family base politics.

It makes me laugh that they are in denial that the McCain-Palin ticket is parading around:unsafe s*x of out teens, school drop outs, abuse of power in political office(being an automatic impeachment charge if found to be the case) .And, now with Joe the Plumber, those who do not pay their taxesare being praised by the Republican ticket. It is my belief that Joe the plumber to keep his fame alive will soon say that he will be voting for Obama-Biden. What news talk shows will not be asking for him to appear? well, this is my take on this matter.

Che, I hope that you take great joy also in the Civil Rights movement and President Obama will have your young one being able to learn what you learned as an adult most likely in grade school.

Those before us did it for us, we did it for you and now you are doing it for that priceless 2 year old of yours. We all did it. We all will continue to do it(post like this one). thanks and lov all of you my young Black leaders out there for the great job you do today.Because all of those first time young votes are the future's Civil Rights movement
