The truth about Life #1... Why did this have to happen to me??? Finding your purpose... (365 hits)

Why is it that so many of us live in the past? Why is it so hard to let go of pain? Can living in the past affect your future? I've had this conversation with a number of people. The outcome of this conversation always ends up with tempers flared. But the reality of the situation is that a lot of us tend to live in the past too much, because "she" hurt me or "he" made me feel less than a person..Whatever the form of pain you may be experiencing there is always a different way of looking at things. Anything that you've been through no matter what it is holds no precedence over your future. Look at it like this if you take both hands and hold on real tight to your future and focusing on what lies ahead for you in life, then you have no available hand to hold on to crap from the past!!!! What are you holding? There are things that happen to all of us in life that doesn't quite make sense to us on why these things happen. But I need you to trust and believe that there is divine plan for all of this. The things that happen to us are designed to bring us to our true purpose for being here. Instead of holding on to things that people have done to you or the hand life has dealt you in the past!!! Focus on what you were suppose to learn from this and focus on the lesson!!!And then, MAKE YOUR EXISTENCE COUNT!!

Amen...
I couldn't have said it better myself.
The obstacles that I've faced and overcome in my past were part of what makes me the "Strong Black Woman" I am today. God brought me to it so I trusted Him to bring me through it. Yes things were sometimes unpleasant, yes I was hurt more times then I care to count, yes it was often a hard difficult road to travel but I made it... Dangit I MADE IT!!!
I live to tell the stories of how I made it and hopefully uplift others about things they're facing letting them know that they too can make it through.

You can't change The Past The Present is a Gift from God that we open up daily to face new challenges leaving old ones behind by giving them to Him The Future isn't promised but it sure can look much brighter if you leave the past in the past.

Thanks for sharing

I think that many people live in the past because that’s what they know. That’s ALL that they know. No matter how much the past hurts them, no matter how much it holds them back, they still cling to it because they are comfortable with it. It’s like in a domestic abuse situation. We look at a couple and wonder why do they fight like enemies every day? Why don’t they just break up and go their separate ways? It’s because that lifestyle has become comfortable to them. They have allowed it to become a part of them. It is the same way for the other problems and barriers and pain that we all face. Letting go of it means we have to move to a new phase in life, a phase that is unknown to us. At least for the pain and struggle we face right now, we know how that will turn out at the end of the day, even if it is at a place that makes us unhappy. But taking a step out on faith to new heights, well, it’s sort of like that phrase at the beginning of the Forest Gump movie: “Life is like a box of chocolate; you never know what you’re going to get” and that’s exactly why many people stay in the past. People do not like the not knowing part. Moving forward takes them to places where they won’t know what they are going to get, and that scares them. I do agree with you, that people need to let it all go so they can enjoy the greatness that awaits them ahead. The good life is there if they would just reach out for it. This posting you made shows exactly what lots of people are missing. Keep on sharing that positive vibe.

Dwelling in old life, will cause one to be caught in "Revolving Doors." They'll keep going in and out of the same doors. There are other doors, and I believe if they are left closed it's because we will not take the challeges to open them. Emotions, hurts, and disappointments shouldn't ever keep one from proceeding. I have memories, but I go on with life and take on new living of the day's challenges. I know what I have purposed is God is with me. Please, keep encouraging others to find there purpose is with the Divine.

I agree , "We study the past in order to understand the present so that we can plan for the future". you should always play or rewind the tape in your head it keeps you from making the same mistakes again

The present is all there is; tomorrow is not promised. All that we need to learn can be attained from the present. The past was the present at one point. If we take the time to understand and explore our experience as it happens, there is no need to continuously pillage the past for enlightenment.

Making the "right" decision at the time, the right decision being one that promotes love and growth, will sow seeds that grow a strong, healthy, and accomplished "future". You will not need to consider or plan their(its) growth; only tend to them (it) with a positive and disciplined approach to the "now".

Life is change.
Growth is change.
The cessation of growth is death.
To fear change is to fear life.
If one has this "understanding?", this fear, then death too is a change and is unwelcome in their house. This, as you see, is a contradiction. One cannot exist with a fear of change; the sun could not rise; the plants could not grow; we could not advance. Understanding that there is no true "consequence" when one acts with love and discipline, only the coming of understanding and graceful evolution, will change one's view of the mentioned

I agree with you Irma; death is not the cessation of growth on a universal scale . In fact, death and life would be one and the same; the body is returned to the earth so that she may continue. We are energy and energy cannot die; it only changes form. However, when placed in the context of our human experience, and recognizing the limitations of language, death is the cessation of our physical growth. This physical plane is the only place that fear may exist.

I think we have come to rely too heavily on fear being a natural part of our survival. Words can be vague but there is a significant difference between the alarm that saves us from predators and the weight of dread that so many seem to carry about; the reticence to leap off of a cliff and the fear of change that causes us to cling to the unhealthy/stagnant familiar. We must be sure to differentiate.

T.D. I can not remember who this quote is from: "We study the past in order to understand the present so that we can plan for the future".

For me this is related to we who turn our mistakes into a lesson of change from doing the same old failed thing over and over and expecting a successful result is called not a "mistake" but progress...

I agree with you Will. Fear of the unknown /change is very, very hard. It is also much easier to blame others, places and things than to take a hard, honest look at ourselves. This is called Self:worth, survival, esteem, etc...or just being brave enough to make tomorrow better than today(by the way this is my motto in life).

for every cause(action) there is always an effect(consequence) this is what causes change or progress or just the law of physics. for example life changes at every moment. We are happy, sad, wake. sleep or like blance.

Another example, I do not believe the death is the cessation of life/growth only a change/balance ...to fear is a natural form of self survival...

"She hurt me" from a person responsible for their own action and own their own life would say, "I" allowed her to hurt me...Please never give any one that much control/power l over your life that they can then instruct you how thy want to run it/react to it for you.

"I am the captian of my fate and the master of my own soul". this is from the poem the Ancient Mariner.
