About   (request update)
Originally from Montgomery, Alabama, I received my BA from Alabama State University. I was blacklisted as a teacher in Alabama after participating in Dr. Martin Luther King' march from Selma to Montgomery.

Since 1996 I have served as President of Providence St. Mel School in Chicago. We are proud that in the last 30 years, 100% of our graduating seniors go on to 4-year colleges, with more than 50% attending top-tier and Ivy League institutions in the last 7 years.

The Providence Effect is a documentary noting the great achievements of our students, and the drive of our staff and parents to see them succeed at the highest levels, despite their environmental and social challenges.

Our model encourages and supports high academic achievement. All students deserve that encouragement and support.

My Interview Question
Are you frustrated with the current US Education System?

I'm very concerned about the state of the education system and how it seems to be continuing to decline. My son has just entered the school system, but he's in Catholic school. I've joined the PTA and I will continue to go so that I can make my voice heard and join with the educators to build coalitions for better schools.
