Q&A With Brenda Bratton

What was your proudest moment to be an African American?
"When I heard that President Obama had been elected. I was traveling across country and when the word came in, a celebration of joy filled the air. We stopped for local newspapers and magazines in every city we travelled through. I am as proud today as I was the day that Barack H. Obama won and became President of the United States of America."

Why Are You Concerned About Black America:
We (my family and I) are concerned about Black America because the stereotypes, racism and mental slavery are still with us and perpetrated against us. We only have to look at the cover of New Yorker magazine to see how deep and troublesome our situation is here in the United States. Though the New Yorker said that there were some serious articles inside the covers of that issue, the cover displays how The Obamas have been demonized and villafied and how persistant the problem of stereotypes and racism is here in the United States. This prejudice is saturated in every single institution in waking life and we have suffered because of it. Our children are struggling, our elderly are struggling and we are struggling as the bottom drops out of so many financial and business sectors in our country and we are generally the first fired and last hired. Also, we need to get rid of the N-word TOTALLY because that word carries with it so much hatred. Do we really hate ourselves? Does Jesse Jackson hate Mr. Obama so much that he called him the N-word (along with other nasty dialogue) and hates him for his brilliance? We really need to CHECK ourselves and OUR CHILDREN and GET OUR WORK DONE, or, we WILL NOT SURVIVE! Thank you for asking.
