"Greetings Myth,
Language has been my weakness throughout my education experience, I take your response as a real compliment, especially from you an avid reader.
I am and have been a visual artist that has felt limited in my self expression. So, I have begun put my feelings into Words. You know the old saying, a picture is worth a thousand words, well now my approach is through my words, Picture This!
You are the first to respond with some perspective.
Thank you again,
Ivan"
I began to teach Art on St. Croix in 1969, when the Dept. of Education was recruiting
teachers from abroad. I see myself as a "City Boy," but after living and maturing in the Caribbean, I am an "Island Man."
My lineage to put my roots into perspective: I was born in New York City; my father was born in Trinidad, BWI, his father was born in Barbados,BWI; my grandfather's father was from Scotland (French-Scottish); my fatherʼs mother was born in Martinique, FWI, but was raised in Grenada ( French /African).
I was told that my father's grandmother's African roots were Rhodesia, Africa. My mother was born outside of Appomattox
Va., both of her parents were born in the same area; my grandfatherʼs people were African and my grandmotherʼs mother was Cherokee/African (N Carolina).
When people meet me they are often curious to my background and religion. They ask if I am an Israelite, Muslim, Rasta, African, West Indian..etc. My usual response is that, I am "Human."
Now:
We African / Americans are a family and it is time that we begin working toward our own family's interests. The idea that, "Charity begins at home" is not separatism nor selfishness. The neglecting of ourselves and relying on others to provide for us nurtures that negative perception other families have of our community.

Life & Professional Aspirations:
My Reflection: I Am My Words
Again, I find myself cutting and pasting my responses to issues that continue
to repeat themselves, just in different locations with a different but the same
cast of characters.
Book 1 - Picture This... after receiving positive feedback of recognition, and
support for my postings, I began taking my writing seriously.
The question I have been asked most frequently, how is it that I have had so
many of my articles featured in the local newspapers? What I believe is that
when I write, I am not attacking anyone, and I have tried to offer a solution to
the issue I am addressing.
When I write, I am trying to create mental images for the reader to interpret.
Book 2 - My Reflection: I Am My Words ... is my response to the concerns, the
questions and the misconceptions to my perspective on political and social
issues expressed in my book Picture This...
