Q&A With Michael Washington

(interview me)
Michael Washington
Clerk, Glendale Community College

Location: Pasadena, CA United States

About   (request update)
One part of my life that I hold near and dear is the period between 1989 to 1997. This was when I started a non-profit organization called The Pasadena Afrikan Culture Center. We were in existence for about 8yrs. and we really did a lot in the way of helping and getting to know the people in the grassroots. It was truly a humbling and amazing chapter of my life that I will never forget.
My Interview Question
What 3 problems do you think hinder black people from coming together?
Current Whereabouts:
Right now, I am deeply involved with the development of my personal spirituality. I believe that we are living in the advent of a new age that will be characterized by the development of " Higher Consciousness ". This new age has the kind of ramifications that may redefine what and who we are, as well as empower us in many amazing ways.
Life & Professional Aspirations:
Along with my AA Degree, I also obtained a Certificate in Alcohol and Drug Counseling because of my days with The Afrikan Culture Center, I experience so many of our people who were effected by these substances. I am also thinking in terms of becoming a financial consultant because there are so many of us who don't have a clue about how we are being taken advantage of in this area of life and with the proper knowledge how we can benefit by having better credit!
Experience
I currently work with Glendale Community College as Clerk
I have 20 years of experience working in the Warehousing industry.
My BlackInAmerica.com Profile
Why Are You Concerned About Black America:
I am a black American and I am concerned that if we fail to come together we will become the permanent underclass! What I mean by coming together is not just physically but more so mentally, emotionally and spiritually! In order for this to happen in my opinion we must go back and study our ancestors on the African continent before colonization. A good book to check out is " Let The Circle Be Unbroken " by Dr. Marimba Ani. We have to realize that we have much more in common than we are able to realize without having more knowledge about who we are before slavery, before " Willie Lynch " if not we will continue to think we are our own enemy and the killings will continue!!
