About   (request update)
Born in Los Angeles, I grew up with both parents- my mother a teacher, my father a minister- and 4 brothers. I spent much of my growing up, however, in a small town near Dallas, Texas. I was always nominated a high school class favorite, in the drill team-captain my senior year- and football sweetheart my senior year. After a short stint studying psychology in college, a talent scout convinced me to get into television. I did, and was given some of the most intense, private coaching and tutorials available in the industry. I spent 15 years in television as a reporter, anchor and producer. I traveled all over the world, including the Middle East, interviewed U.S Presidents, foreign dignataries, drug dealers, hookers, racists and victims. I covered murder trials and death sentences. I won Associated Press awards for documentaries. I now work in elementary education. I studied the deficits in processing, reading, writing and comprehension skills of elementary school children. It's an environment where I also take the opportunity to encourage our young black boys and girls, though many of my students are Hispanics. Unfortunately, I am divorced after 16 years of marriage. Last, but not least, I am a strong bible believing Christian.
My Interview Question
What is your purpose?
Current Whereabouts:
Currently I'm the manager/editor of two black websites, volunteer/mentor for adolescent-young adults and an educator in an elementary urban minority school. The release of my first book is coming soon. But more than anything, I'm a journalist. I'm a voracious consumer of the social and political landscape in our country. I'm a serious observer. And the knowledge is priceless in detecting roadblocks, landmarks for where you've been, where you are and where you must go! My 20 year old son is a senior at Morehouse College. He funds most of his own tuition with his graphic design business-www.opmdesignlab.com.

My BlackInAmerica.com Profile
Why Are You Concerned About Black America:
It's important that we discover solutions to the problems we cause for ourselves. There's no doubt we have negative and destructive outside stimuli, but I believe that while that's being worked on and worked out by politicians, social activists, our vote, etc., we must stop damaging our own. I've written a book about this belief. Scheduled to be released soon, I began working on this manuscript, "Black Men Stop!" (an excerpt is at www.blackmenstop.com), several years ago. Based on my observations, research and personal experience, it's my way of telling fathers to love their children. Fatherlessness, I contend, is the source of the catalyst for most of our ills. Today, if white men were doing to blacks, what black men are doing to their own people -killing, drugs, hivaids & abandonment-we would not stand for it! There would be civil rights violence, marches and speeches, not unlike the movement 40 years ago. Ok, what do you think?

Check out this story about China possibly banning blacks from night clubs during the olympics? It was discussed on the radio this evening. I found two links below about it. Interesting how the major American news channels have not discussed this. Maybe they will soon. http://thedailyvoice.com/voice/2008/07/is-china-discriminating-agains-000900.php http://shanghaiist.com/2008/07/18/the_racist_games.php http://barbadosfreepress.wordpress.com/2008/07/19/china-olympics-police-ask-bar-owners-not-to-serve-blacks-because-they-are-pimps-prostitutes-and-drug-dealers/

So you went from TV to education. Yes, we do have a lot in common. However, I'm looking to move back in to television after spending 10 years in education. Myself and a team of young African-American males are taking some television shows to NATPE in January 2009. Keep the prayers going for us. We hope to land several deals. I love my job teaching in our broadcasting academy, but the writing on the wall is plain and clear to me. The behavior problems are increasing and I'm finding myself coming to work being a prison/security guard, always looking over my shoulder and coming to work ready to go to war. That is not the way to live or enjoy life. As I get older, I'm looking for life to get easier, not harder. Plus, school districts do not support teachers. If you defend yourself against violence by our youth, they will turn on you. Teachers have become members of the public enemy list these days. Sad.

..sorry, I only used the word Christian because my neighbor was quoting to me what his Bible said to validat him disagreements with seeing my picture in our local paper, He had no idea nor was he interested in what really happened or those papers are representing how I fight. i use the American constution, but then how can he know this. All Blacks use violence to fight their battles/settle their points? so, heere I am once again having my family and friends and some of my neighbors in fear for my life. My life is trying to get equality for my people!

here is somthing i send to some of the people I meet on the net like you and Anjuan who can helpthe Black in America efforts for equality. please go to you computer and bring up the articleNAACP will form area chapter. This is a total lie. This was able to be done only by censor of what actually happened. Before, i spole to this chief, I said, Sir, I am the police department's nightmare. the papers in my hand are the fedearal and state laws of what is a Hate-Crime. I was in opposition of the NAACP because here the years and years of them representing the Black community is what was so not feared by the legal system here. This is when I came out of 'retirment' offically about intergrating police departments. That is me on the front page in all of my African pride's glory. The first person to attack me was my Chritian White male neighbor accrost the street. He used these words. irma why are you trying to start up trouble" My answer is first of all 50 years after you are dead and gone do not ever try and define me or try to do my thinking. I have know this mneighbor for about 26 years and we have always gotten along with no problems in this neighborhood where we are the only Black family for the past 45 years!!!More later.

I am so glad that I found this site with so many people like you on it.I have no idea if it is my lack of how to use the computer, but I am not able to even get in the full video voices on Youtube. my greatest fight is trying to get media coverage of the Black community it self. for example, if Obama's speech/town hall are onC-Span and i am luck enough to find it then I get to learn what this man has is saying! If you can in any way help me to be able to use my computer to find more of Obama's actions during this campaign , please let me know how to do this. Again, thank you for being my sister friend

Your right, the ideal is probably more optimistic than real. "Try to consider that much of the problems we have are due to our own bad behavior." However we must take some kind of act whether we aggressively seek governmental positions as a unified black people or create our own. Regardless the over all goal is to reverse our negative past.
