Q&A With Tony Boyd

What was, and what are your influences
" As far as what? I have had a lot of different influences over my life. God has been most major. Bill Cosby was another major influence, my mom, my older brother, my older sister, teachers, friends, my wife, my kids. The list is extensive."

Interviewed by Austin Hughes 09/28/08

Why are you here?
"Here as in, Black In America.com or as in on this Earth? As far as BIA.com, I am here to get to know people with a social conscience and to network. As far as on this Earth, I am not sure exactly but I strive to be the best me I can be."

Interviewed by Karen Hunter 09/28/08

What makes you special to others?
"That would be kind of hard to say. I would think it would be better for others to tell you what about is special to them. The only other way I can answer that is that I just try to be the best person I can be and do the best I can."

Interviewed by NINA DUPONT 09/28/08

What one thing would you like to change in the world?
"Get rid of intolerance. In my opinion, a lot of the problems of the world stem from one group's intolerance of another or intolerance of different ideals. Intolerance of difference in general."

Interviewed by Barbara Dixon 09/28/08

What has life experiences taught you thus far?
"Wow, that is a loaded question. Life experiences have taught me that no matter how much I learn, that there is always more that can be learned. Life experiences have taught me that you either have to be born rich or work hard for the the things you want in life. Life experiences have taught me that love is one of life most precious treasures. Life experiences have taught me that raising children is one of the hardest jobs you will ever love. Life experiences have taught me to not give up before giving out. Life experiences have taught me that I always have and always will need God in my life. And that's just the tip of the iceberg of what life experiences have taught me"

Interviewed by Vanessa Duplessis 08/22/08

When will the absent fathers realize the impact of their actions (or lack of) towards their children?
"Unfortunately, maybe never. Some of them never had a good model to follow as far as male child-rearing. Some got the idea that being selfish was not a bad thing and feel entitled to do as they please without regard to the consequences to others. Some are just too young when they help create the child to be able to be a father, good or bad. They run in fear. Some are just callous and feel like the kids they have don't deserve any better than what they got. How do we change all these things? We have to start with the young. Teach them what family is about and what it truly means to be a man. As far as the older ones, continue to try our best to educate them and show them the error of their ways to the best of our abilities. It is a daunting task but what other choice do we have?"

Interviewed by Kim Knowles 08/16/08

how honest are you
"Intriguing question but nearly impossible to verify. In general, I consider myself an honest man but I don't necessarily tell the truth all the time especially when I think a situation calls for tact."

Interviewed by kathy jarrett 08/16/08

Win or Defeat?
"Depends on what sense of the words they are being asked from. Who wouldn't choose win over defeat? But as I suspect you are asking, would I rather just merely "win" (accomplish my goal) or would I want to "defeat" (totally dominate my goal or opposition)? While winning is a noble pursuit, supposedly the killer instinct is what allows you be aggressive and dominating in whatever endeavour you choose. In that sense, I would choose to "defeat" but in practice I tend to be more of a "win" guy."

Interviewed by Alvin Green 08/12/08

What makes you happy?
"My wife. My kids. My photography. My art in general."

Interviewed by Candice Johnson 08/10/08

What does it mean to be educated?
"It means freedom and responsibility. It means freedom because with an education you are not hampered by the lack of one. It opens doors to job opportunities, gives you the knowledge to overcome adversity, enhances your ability to reason and much more. It means responsibility because as you learn you become obligated to pass that knowledge on."

Interviewed by Dr. S. Maxwell Hines 08/10/08

Why should I accept your friend request?
"Because we have a common interest in the graphic arts."

Interviewed by Melvin Wilson 08/07/08

If a tree falls in the woods does it make a sound? Now alone in thoughts I think about everything, from my college studies, to my Masonic Knowledge, to how my friends are doing from Atlanta, to Alantis.... and when things get bored i may think about something my momma told me.

Hello..Tony and thanks for your reply. The (BMW) stands for Black Man Working and the reason I stated "that on firs encounters you should meet a person mind first” was to establish general small talk before conversing in depth conversation. When you meet a persons mind it gives you a general ideal of the person education, personally, character and if there are introverted or extroverted by the words they use. But I never judge a person by their small talk, because we all have good and bad days in our lives I stated the same ideal different from you, (discussing the complexities of the universe….smile).but we are in agreement on meeting people. Stay Blessed James

Hello Tony... (BMW) My name is James and I’m glad to make your acquaintance. My belief is when you first encounter someone online, that you should meet their mind first and become acquaintances. If you both can have positive stimulating e-mail communications and enjoy each other, then you could become e-mail friends and take it from there. Nice to meet you. Hope to hear from you soon Stay Blessed James

Tony, you made very valid points. I've committed myself to teaching my young boys the rights and wrongs of being man...a strong, honest, responsible man. I know as their mother, I can only do so much. It will be a hard task for me, but if I can help it, my 3 wont turn out to be like so many others out there. Have a great week!

I have plenty of haters, the one thing about life, we need haters in order to succeed. Ask any successful person if they had people hating on their dreaams, beliefs, etc. I used to hang around a bunch of haters, many of my haters are dead, in jail, homeless, strung out on drugs, living with their Mommas because that is a safety net. The more Hate I'd receieved, the harder I work.

Thank you, the one thing I will not do is limit myself. I was restricted from doing a lot of things as a child: by my Mother and my classmates. Many of my classmates never became successful, they also told me I would be a bum, I refused to let my haters define who I am and what I will become.
