What do YOU know about the South?
"I know that I was born here! Less opportunities are available for blacks in the south-you have to work really hard, stay focused and perserver! Hospitality is the biggest thing besides landscape beauty that the South has to offer the world! Now the South has more blacks willing to express the way they feel, live and love!" Do you consider yourself a Queen? If not, why?
"I most definitely consider myself a Queen! I uplift, enlighten, educate and encourage others with my words! I turn houses into homes with my hands! I produce life from my womb and perserve life with my heart! My light shines where ever I go! But, most importantly-my steps are ordered by God!" Interviewed by Mrs. Barbara Stevens 09/11/08

What are you doing personally to make a change in the black community?
"I am a 2nd year AmeriCorps (americorps.gov) member. My title is Community Organizer, I work in African American communities and neighborhoods in my City to provide the residents with affordable homes that they can own and resources and information on financial stability. I am currently working to help bring a much needed Community Center to a forgotten neighborhood in my City!" Interviewed by chivonne lawson 09/11/08

DO YOU LOVE YOURSELF?
"I am 30 years old and I have only been in love with myself for about 5 or 6 years! Any and everything that you can think of, I have done it! One day I finally realized why I did those things-I was trying to be someone else, a person who I thought others wanted me to be including A perfect daughter to my mother! I had to decide what I want and didn't want in my life, I started to realize my dreams and aspirations, finally I decided that every person that did not support my new way of living would be DISMISSED! I had to realize that I have only an obligation to know and love God, an obligation to love and teach my kids, an obligation to find my purpose in life and an obligation to love myself!" Do you know and understand your life purpose?
"Through all of my trials and tribulations, I have come to realize 1 thing-that it was not all for me, it was for someone else to see, to know, to learn from! My purpose is to take what I experienced and pass it on! My biggest lesson was: No matter where you were born, what your mother or father did or didn't do, rich or poor-only 'you' can determine your future! That's my purpose to pass that on!" I am 'THE' rose that grew from concrete and tears! I've done it all and seen it all...but I still emerge victorious and more importantly wise beyond my years! God has allowed me to go from the pit to the prison to my own personal palace of peace! I had my 1st child at age 14, at 18 I received my GED, I had a felony at age 19, at 21 I had all my kids taken away from me by the State, at 25 I was walking out of a Florida State Prison with plans from God, at 29 I recieved a Technical Certificate in Business, now I'm 30-it took me 8 long years but I finally have my kids back legally, just got married, certified grant writer, well-known and respected in my community and I don't carry a gun anymore! So, now I'm ready to make sure no child (male or female) travels down the road I found myself on!

My Interview Question

In your opinion, what issues continue to hold African-Americans back from being united and helpful to each other?

Life & Professional Aspirations:

I would like to start non-profit programs for at-risk youth 12-18 and a sister program for kids the same ages that are on the right track. The program will touch on everything from self-esteem to absentee parents to budgets and financial stability to no-sex to protection! Mentors will be provided, positive avenues of self-expression will be encouraged, volunteering and community involvement will be apart of the program.

I have 2 years of experience working in the Community, Social Services, and Nonprofit industry.

I work in the non-profit world and at times it is worst than the political world. Came in contact with a fellow who did 10 years Fed(drug charge, currently unemployed and works with neighborhood kids) ...more

Why Are You Concerned About Black America:

We only struggle and strive because we allow ourselves to! Black America has a problem with the truth about 'Black America'! Most of the things that are happening today have always happened-now, it's just on t.v.! Black America: it's Churches, Teachers (retired & active), College Professors, Authors, Artists, Political Leaders, Mothers, Fathers and youth needs to talk-truthfully and candidly! There is no Unity without Understanding-there is no Strengthening without Straightening! If not, we may find ourselves extinct!
