What must black people do to unite?
"I believe the more we reach back and help each other from the top, the more we will solidify our raace. Too often, blacks have 'made it' and never looked back. This only keeps the ones left behind angry and frustrated. What I see as a shift of more successful blacks giving back and reaching back, the more I see the confidence of others raised. We must become more race-friendly in order for others to listen to us. Our positive ole models must not be afraid to hug a young brother or listen to the little sister. We have to close the gap and be less frightened about the possibility of losing what has been acquired. We must not be frightened about each other and become more compassionate towards each other across social classes, too." Interviewed by George Cook 02/01/09

What is your contribution in Shifting the paradigm of dysfunction in the African American community

What book have you read that changed your life?
"Boy, what a tough question. Many books have contributed to the tranformation of my life, but most notably the bible. More specifically, discovering that black people are the Kushites. Then King David and the book of Psalms. The relationship this King had with God resonated in my spirit and still does. Other than that, I would have to say "Dust Tracks On The Road" by Zora Neale Hurston because of her love for her people during her era to choose them as the subjects of her work. I love the way she talked about their everyday lives as if they were truly important people. Her imagination to make her characters lively through her "Spool People." Her wit. Before then, I would say, "A Woman Of Substance" by Barbara Taylor Bradford because I was very young in my twentites but after reading that book, I knew it was possible for me to be strong and accomplish a goal that women were not suppose to do. That was when I first began dreaming of owning my own publishing company. I realized women could be business owners and yield power and be empowered. I realized I wanted to write professionally one day, too. I also realized that there was something wrong with white people in control of Africa and the diamond industry so I began thirsting for more information about that as well. What are you willing to bring to the table of unity and visionary growth?

What make you to move on with your journey
"Of course, God's healing hands and faith to me, but my children are my second biggest motivators. I will never fail in their eyes becaue they will carry that self-help, self-determination spirit into the next generation. I hate it when children do not have parents as positive role models. How can we overcome the negative issues to focus on our strengths to create positive outcomes?

What will you do to make an impact in this world?
"Convince one more person to seek mental healthcare for him or herself, a family member, others. Continue to raise the awareness of brain disorders such as Bipolar. Show the world that stigmas hurt not just the person, but the community at large. Publish my book, "Cooling Well Water: A Collection of Work By An African-American Bipolar Woman" and then sell each copy I could afford to self-publish~!" Interviewed by Dr. Deborah Price 09/12/08

What bought you to where you are in your life today?
"A spiritual transformation of my mindset. I was moving through life carnally working and parenting and schooling. My focus was on material objects such as house, car, bills, stuff for kids. I was enslaved. When I became ill and God delivered me from that illness, my value system changed. I began to focus more on what I could do that would give God all the glory. Then I began telling my story which opened up doors for me to journey to where I am today. I am freed spiritually. Thank you for such a good question." Interviewed by Fareeda Mabry 09/07/08

How does your spiritually (not religion) affect you daily view of the world and the changes taking place.
"Spiritually, I view the changes taking place as ordered by God. I see His hand sweeping across the world making His promises true. I see discernment with visions and prophecies. " Interviewed by Jamila Langevin 09/07/08

How important is family to you?
"Family is exxxxtremely important to me. When I had my ephiphany that God specifically united certain individuals to be in one family, as opposed to friends, I began to appreciate family more. Family, therefore, is purposeful to fulfill God's will IMMHO." Interviewed by Yusuf A. H. Salaam 09/07/08

What do YOU know about the South?
"That my paternal ancestors landed on the Gullah-Geechie Islands of the Lowcountry. That it is beautiful down there and I hope to retire there with my family rich in culture. It is very rural in my "hometown" and the peace is very enticing. That palm trees are the state tree and justifiably so. That sitting on the front porch with lemonade and staring off at a field of corn softens the mind. That church really is "chuch." That the love and compassion from neighbors toting homemade cakes from house to house on Sundays is sincere. That swimp and grits is so dang good! What inspires you to write?
"God and the way He speaks to me through nature. My daily experiences with managing and coping my brain disorder of Bipolarity. It is good mental therapy and it is the single-most way I can reach back into the community to uplift others. The color of a flower petal or the hummingbird that hovers over just one pink flower petal. The way the golden yellow sunflowers tilt their giant heads towards me as if to say, "hello." The tiny little lavender flowers that form on green weeds. The simpilist things in life inspire me to write because it stimulates my mind to stay healthy. Then there is..." How do you give back to the community?
"I take the time to talk to youth. I let them know how important they are to our future and I let them know they are loved. I stay on youth about the importance of education, no drugs/alcohol, no teen sex, and planning for college as a goal. I also reach out to families with special needs individuals and/or mental illness. I attend events for advocacy issues such as civil rights, supports and services for individuals with special needs. I share that information with others. I also teach part-time so I have greater access to our youth and to keep them focused so that they do not fall victims to No Child Left Behind. This is done by encouraging them to believe they can do all things and be successful at it." Interviewed by Raphah Anderson 09/05/08

"As saved by God. As reaching back to our community to raise awareness of mental illnesses and treatment for it so we can all enjoy a quality of life. For my advocacy work. For my integrity and tenacity. For my love of my children and God's people. For over-coming major obstacles. What do you really want out of life?

What is your divine purpose and how is that reflected in your lifework?
"My divine purpose is to show that God is real through my testimony and my walk. When I was called to reveal my mental illness, I didn't get it. What role has formal education (all levels) played in shaping your current world view?
"It has shaped it wonderfully! It has alllowed me to dialogue with people who make the world go around. It has exposed me to issues and information that I did not know existed or took for granted. If you were banned from the United States and you have to leave today, what country would you go to live in - and why?
"Ha, ha, ha. I am responding with humor (a little). I would flee to France/Greece where Tina Turner lives! (I swear to God it comes from Heaven above)!" Interviewed by Dante Lee 08/29/08

Do you know and understand your life purpose?
"I believe so. It was a journey I am still walking, but I now know the purpose for my life. The minute I discovered what it was, doors opened up and bright lights came on. "Walk this way." The Lord beckoned." Interviewed by Frederick Confidence 08/29/08

Apostle Agnes Levineis that I was chosen by Soveign God to be helpful to others with a mental health condition.

Apostle Agnes is a mother of two adult children. She currently is President of Levine-Oliver Publisher, Inc.and The Arc of Maryland Partnership in Policymaking and Founder of Cooling Well Water Ministry. Agnes completed the Masters in Public Administration/Minor in Legal and Ethical Studies programs at the University of Baltimore and holds a BA Degree in Political Science from the University of Baltimore. Agnes is also an alumna of the former Community College of Baltimore where she studied Paralegal Science.

As a parent of a severely disabled young adult, Agnes has combined experience, education, knowledge, and skills in public policy and is a graduate of the Robert Woods Johnson Foundation/Maryland Developmental Disability Council Federal Advocacy Program, as a life-time member of Maryland Partners in Policymaking and oversight of disability legislation and implementation, service delivery.

Agnes is also has experience and participation in NAMI Training Classes: Peer-To-Peer, Basics, IOOV. I am a former Grassroots Mobilization Committee Member for the National Alliance on Mental Illness - Metropolitan Baltimore Chapter, and NAMI Maryland and NAMI South Carolina and NAMI Georgia at www.namgai.org, member Board of Directors for NAMI-Charleston, SC, and a certified NAMI IOOV Presenter.

As Founder and President of Levine-Oliver Publisher, Inc., Apostle Agnes has published a book, "Cooling Well Water: An African-American Bipolar Woman, and "I Saw You In His Eyes: Reenie's Story which is scheduled for Winter 2023 Release. The book is in paperback format and delves into how mental illness affects a young black woman.

Why Are You Concerned About Black America:

I am concerned that we are the least race group to seek mental healthcare. WE trail behind all other races in doing the positive self-help things and then we suffer then most because of that. If we are going to ever seriously heal, no matter who did what, we must take ourselves seriously enough to want to make ourselves whole. We need self-love! If we are suffering from clinical depression and then use drugs or alcohol to medicate that depression, we are killing ourselves and our communities. Self-help and Self-determination are key to over-coming the stigmas and debilitating ways of brain disorders such as Bipolar. It's not funny anymore. It's time to take it seriously when you see the crippling affects Bipolar, and other mental illnesses, has on our family and community and our future.

	Sister Agnes the situation with Prophetess Juanita was a hot mess! Although I empathize with her situation, I do believe the bible does say that man looks on the outside... unless we do positive things that reflect Christ so that people will look at Jesus rather than us, we must not be upset with people for pointing out what they saw as phoney. It looks phoney to them so that's their opinion. I personally pray that she has recovered and I'm glad she's finding solace in her music. Prophetess Bynum has moved on as her ex husband has also moved on especially since he's remarried for the 3rd time to an equally anointed Woman of God. Experiences also serve to be good teachers and I'm sure the situation serves as a true teachable moment for her. God bless her and I pray that she will do well in her ministry. Much Love to Her. 	Peace Nubian; Well on the bipolar issue, its just the "GHOST OF THE PLANTATION"! It haunts the pschological & social process of African Americans. Our limitation rest only in our ignorance because we are ignorant of who we are & what we can do. BORN-U-TRUTH (but), with the right knowledge & right "over"standing (tied of being under); we must begin to entertain the brain,in order to break the psychological chains! Only then would that seriously healing your talking about can began.From self hate or suffering from clinical depression. No clinical DR's are going to heal us as a people. The only remedy is KNOWLEDGE-OF-SELF to overcome the stigmas. I dont believe we really have BIPOLAR, we just been knock unconscious in the ring of AMERICA & need to be woken up! The Messenger ELIJAH MUHAMMAD started teaching us this back in the 30's & still-til this day The HONORABLE MINISTER LOUIS FARRAKHAN still teachse this.An still 85% of us are still knocked the hell out! Mentally Blind, Deaf, & Dumb & full of fear. (BLIND) because thy dont see the light of truth after being shown it for 80 years. (DEAF) because they will not hear the truth. (DUMB) because they will not see or open their ears & hearts after the light has shown clear for many years. "DAMN" IF YOU PUT IT THAT WAY,maybe 85% do have BIPOLAR.......LOL!!!! 	The blog you recently did made me think about how the majority of churches deny people to acknowledge mental health issues. I happened to attend a church in NY when the 2001 WTC Towers were attacked and do you know that the pastor and the other ministers never once thought to tell us that we should seek professional help or counseling, but just pray?! Think of all the people like me that went to that church who were suffering. There were people giving testimonies of how they missed work that day and the ministers saying that God protects His people. Oh let me not forget they also said fear was of the devil and that we have to live by having faith that God would protect us. I believe that, but when it comes to mental illness --- the church world almost does everything they can to preach against/discourage against seeking medical treatment, but it's a totally different story if one has cancer. What is the difference in having an imbalance of the brain vs having cancer of the brain? Both should be treated with professional help in my opinion and there's nothing wrong with prayer while one is getting professional help. Tagged by Jen Fad on 02/02/2010
