Q&A With Tristan Gross

If you were told that you have one week to live; Name seven things you would spend your last days doing
"1. Quit my job 2.Empty my bank account/sell all belongings 3.Rent an RV and round up everyone I can for a final road trip 4.Tell every important person in my life I love them and WHY/ give parting advice 5.Write one last poem that sums up my life experiences, feelings, and opinions 6.Call out every injustice I see no matter what level it's on 7.Never stop smiling"

Interviewed by Salycia Carpenter 10/03/08

Why are there so many successful black people not helping other black people obtain or encourage success?
"That is an excellent question that I often struggle with myself. I used to wonder why when people got better jobs they moved out of my old neighborhood. But as I got older and begin to understand all the negativity that was surrounding me it became clear to me. And the more progressed in my thought patterns the less I wanted to be around all that foolishness and riff raff. There are many people that I have tried to help but the wall that I have ran into time and time again is that hey want the result without putting forth the effort. Or they sometimes lack the motivation. You can only lead the horse to the water you cannot force it to drink. In a sense they have done a lot by becoming successful themselves. They have provided an example and left a model that can be followed by those who want to. Also I have found that successful people like to hang around other sucessful people. I'm not saying it's right. It's just the way it is. Just out of curiosity...what do you suggest as a solution?"

My BlackInAmerica.com Profile
Why Are You Concerned About Black America:
Our culture is losing it's essence. Things that used to be important to us as a people such as religion, unity, education, and equality have been traded in for more self-debasing pursuits. We have lost touch with holding one another accountable for our actions. In general we have forgotten the sacrafices made and the injustices endured for us to get where we are today. And plainly we have dropped the ball of progression.
