| Why are there so many successful black people not helping other black people obtain or encourage success? |

"That is an excellent question that I often struggle with myself. I used to wonder why when people got better jobs they moved out of my old neighborhood. But as I got older and begin to understand all the negativity that was surrounding me it became clear to me. And the more progressed in my thought patterns the less I wanted to be around all that foolishness and riff raff. There are many people that I have tried to help but the wall that I have ran into time and time again is that hey want the result without putting forth the effort. Or they sometimes lack the motivation. You can only lead the horse to the water you cannot force it to drink. In a sense they have done a lot by becoming successful themselves. They have provided an example and left a model that can be followed by those who want to. Also I have found that successful people like to hang around other sucessful people. I'm not saying it's right. It's just the way it is. Just out of curiosity...what do you suggest as a solution?" Interviewed by Rhonda Taylor 10/02/08 |
