Q&A With George Milliken

(interview me)
George Milliken
Global Mathematics Education Consultant, The Milliken Hines Group

Location: Winston-Salem, NC United States
Joined: Oct 20th, 2008
About   (request update)
I am the oldest of four as well as a PK. My wife describes me as a disabled veteran mathematician. I joined the Army as a Forward Observer and was honorably discharged due to injuries received in a nearly fatal accident. While recovering from the injuries, I earned a degree in Architectural Drafting and Design.
I am a proud graduate of Kentucky State University, where I co-majored in Pure Mathematics as well as Education and minored in Computer Science and Business. I sang bass in the Gospel and Concert Choirs as well as being the editor of the campus newspaper. I was also the first male cheerleader since the school didn't have a gymnastics team.
I graduated with distinction from Hofstra University in New York with my master's degree in Mathematics Education. I was one of the professionals who developed the standards-based mathematics assessment model for the state of Kentucky and I was 1 of 2 mathematics staff developers for The Kentucky A.V.I.D. Program. I also developed and implemented teaching strategies that helped students improve at all levels, using a cultural connection. I was assigned to teach the students who were having difficulty learning mathematics and was able to help them improve dramatically in a year. I was appointed to the position of chairperson of the mathematics department at ABGS Middle School in Hempstead, NY where I was able to significantly reverse the downward trend of test scores by implementing strategies designed to improve student thinking, reasoning and understanding of mathematical ideas .
My Interview Question

I also mentor African-American males interested in the teaching profession.

My BlackInAmerica.com Profile
Why Are You Concerned About Black America:
Our children are not reaching their potential academically, exploited by athletics and kicked to the curb afterward, thus keeping a permanent underclass. We are not reaching our full potential as a people. We must realize that we are descendants of royalty and that the only person that can stop you is you. We all must reach out and pull each other up and not crabs in a barrel. We must keep striving forward, keep learning and growing so that we can reach our full potential. It seems that after a certain age, we choose to stop learning and growing instead of choosing to be lifelong learners, filled with an enthusiasm for the quest for knowledge to keep moving forward.

The root is theism(t), not the way you have it written. "theism" is the real root of the word atheist, not the two that you think it is.
Tagged by George Milliken on 12/11/2008
Well, let me help you out a little. Your argument is flawed in a couple of key areas with regards to the word 'atheist'. 'A' does mean anti, but the root is theism which means the belief in the existence of one God, not the(o) and ist. Your constructed argument is fundamentally flawed. I think you need to correct your corrected version. The next time you speak on miseducation, make sure that you are not the one with the inaccurate information.
