The Temptations sang this song back in the days of "old school" which I have a very vivid memory of days like that. From what I can remember it went like this: "Papa was a rolling stone, wherever he laid his hat was his home...and when he died ...all he left us all alone." The Tempations led a dramatic way into music business. They were fresh and new and had a sound like none before. Their music represented a timeless era. Even today, it has the same magnetic force as it did then. I could see the everyday living in the words written in their songs. From the cheating, of a man and the relationship of his son, to the loving of a woman and from the drugs and overcast clouds of Cloud 9 which gave inspiration of succeeding in your dreams. What reality was in the lyrics of Cloud 9! One would think it was about getting high on drugs, but it could also be seen and reaching a high to become a better persons in their own lives. Their songs were full of morals and imaginations --all sang to great music and with marvelous commitment. When there was a new "tempation" of society they would break out with a song to either offer soul and solutions, or to change and resolve it. Although the group had it's ups and downs, with bickering and trouble among themselves, they have still reflected lasting memories and the survival of groups.. I see them as somewhat a standard of how a group can go from musical highs to low down lows. A group that brought a music legend. A legend of Group called The Tempations. is allmost snynonymous to the group's name. They have been through a lot, and even when losing some of its members in passing, the music, the legend of them continue to remain. The Tempations who reminded us...."If you're living in a glass house, don't throw no stone". They were Melvin Franklin, Eddie Kendricks, Otis Williams, Paul Williams and David Ruffin.
