I had received an message earlier today that a person felt that I didn't support Obama. I responded to that person with some of my earlier videos and radio show interview. I voted for Obama, I made calls for Obama, I donated money to Obama, but I did not turn off my mind for Obama.
My perspective on the election is different from a lot of people because I put it in the historical context of Jesse Jackson's to previous runs. I put in the context that other black people have stepped up and sought the office of the Presidency. I put it in the context that the hope of Black people comes from neither the Democrats or Republicans.
My support for Obama was for the symbolic value he provides to the Black community more than any hope of substantive change that he might bring to policy. I believe that we as Black people need to get serious about developing our creation, maintenance, and growth of the means of production.
It is not about getting a piece of the pie. We must develop pie factories. We must develop farms to grow the ingredients for the farm. We must develop industry to power the factory and provide the raw materials to build the factory.
Obama is a wake up calll. That we need to stop making excuses and continue to foster the development of our community. Remember you don't need to beg for a job when you create jobs.
