When Republicans took control of Congress after the 1994 elections, she took the lead in the Clinton Administration in successfully fighting efforts by the Republicans, especially in the House of Representatives, to weaken the Clean Water Act. She was able to work in a bipartisan manner, though, with Congressional Republicans in helping craft amendments to strengthen the Safe Drinking Water Act and the Food Quality Protection Act.
As EPA Administrator, Browner also started the Agency's successful brownfields program, which, during her tenure, helped facilitate cleanups of contaminated facilities, especially in urban areas, and which leveraged more than $1 billion in public and private funds for cleanups.
A graduate of the University of Florida, and former head of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Browner knows Florida well and would be a welcome ally for those in the state who hope to improve the ongoing restoration of the Florida Everglades and temper efforts to drill off the state's coastlines.
She is a tough cookie, but something is not right.. I know something or two about disobeying Court Orders..either because the Judge is crooked..or you think you are above the law..(In my case the Judge IS crooked).
I hope the quid pro quo is worth it Mr. President.
background on Browner’s stained past:
On her last day in office, nearly eight years ago, Browner oversaw the destruction of agency computer files in brazen violation of a federal judge’s order requiring the agency to preserve its records. This from a public official who bragged about her tenure: “One of the things I’m the proudest of at EPA is the work we’ve done to expand the public’s right to know.”
