In response to a call for action by Healthcare For America Now, I sent A letter this morning urging the House of Representatives (for my District, Representative Elijah Cummings) to support President Obama's Budget (Healthcare Reform).
I am strongly urging each of you to do the same by contacting your District's Representative. The House of Representatives MUST know that we are watching this Budget closely as it will affect whether or not healthcare reform is passed!!!
How to contact your Representative?:
If you visit this link, you will be able to search your state and locate your Representative and then you can send a message directly from your Representative's page. Please visit:

You can be brief and simply ask your Representative to support the Budget. Remember one letter represents 100 people so please step up to the plate and swing the bat hard for 100 homeless people or 100 poor people or 100 children or 100 domestic violence victims -- and YOU! Below is a sample letter to get your thoughts flowing:
********************
Dear Representative Cummings:
I am contacting you from Health Care for America Now and on behalf of myself to ask you to take immediate action to get the House of Representatives to support President Obama’s Budget to get the economy moving again.
President Obama has said again and again that to fix our economy, we must fix health care and we must do it in 2009. Therefore, I urge you to please support President Obama's Budget now.
[TALKING POINT]
The Administration’s Budget puts money behind those words.
President Obama identified $634 billion in funding over ten years as a down payment on fixing health care. This is just a start. The House of Representatives must match the President’s commitment and work with the President to provide sufficient funding for doing health care reform right.
We need to make the investments in health care now in order to achieve longer-term savings in health care. I have contacted you before for assistance with matters with my son, Quori, and you have been very supportive. I am now writing to ask on behalf of my son and others for you to help everyone with disabilities and not disabled by supporting this Budget that will provide increased medical services and supports for individuals with special needs to live in the community and have an affordable quality of life through quality and affordable healthcare.
I urge you and other members of the House of Representatives to stand with me and support the President’s commitment to health care reform in 2009. I am counting on you and members of the House of Representatives to please make health care reform happen this year.
[END TALKING POINTS]
[I like adding personal info to reveal I am paying close attention] I attended the Obama Healthcare Advocacy Summit in January 2009 and listened to many experts, including Professor Judy Feder from the Georgetown University School of Public Policy, explain the advantages of having a public healthcare program in the US. I am convinced this is an ideal alternative to the rising cost of healthcare and the diminishing of quality healthcare today. We need quality, affordable health care in 2009 that includes the choice of keeping the health insurance we have or joining a new public health insurance plan with benefits that meet our needs.
The public health program will also provide much needed relief for Medicare and Medicaid. We need health coverage that is affordable for individuals such as my son Quori who have severe medical fragilities and are dependent on medical technology, average hard-working/poor families, and businesses striving to provide healthcare benefits for employees. We need equality in health care access, treatment, research, and resources to people and communities of color which gives US universal access.
[end of personal info]
Thank you in advance for your time and support of President Obama's Budget. You can always count on me to support you in your political endeavors as well.
