If you're a lover of growing things including plants and flowers soon it'll be planting time. Now, I'm not claiming expertise but I do love to see lovely gardens and flower beds in bloom. I do it basically as a hobby, and I admit I aim to do more bulb planting.
If you're a beginner it's just about too late to plant bulbs now unless you're planting for next year's garden. Bulbs usually used for spring and summer planting and they are considered as prennials which means they return each year without replanting. If you're wanting just a summer bed, you can use annuals. They will last throughout the spring or summer but they will require replanting again the following spring and summer. If you're a lazy gardener, which I mean you want the beauty without all the work you can choose blooming flowers just for the season. They usually require less fertilizer and work but give the look of working for hours. Now for the patio and window gardener petunias and moss make a great porch or patio flower. There are dozens more! The "Elephant Ears" are easy..just give them plenty of water! Gardening can produce a nice atmosphere for your home. In fact, homes that are most admired have a show of plants. A vegetable garden requires lots more work, but the harvest can be substantial to it's owner. Why grow? Don't if you're not into it, you'll soon lose interest and your garden will fade away. So if you serious, you will begin by visiting your local nursery and garden centers. Ask questions. Ask other people who grow things. Research a bit too, and the get the most benefit of your new and lively garden. Before you know it, you'll have a lovely yard, and you get to exercise and release stress as well. Sounds like a well-cared garden is just waiting for you! Come on...get in the dirt! Best to you.
