Ella--- How did you develop your characters?
My book isn't fiction but, as a personal development coach I am the main character sharing information which empowers my readers.
Ella--- What do you love the most about your novel/book?
If a reader is really committed to their personal development the content of my book can help them on their journey.
Ella--- When you write books, do you have certain objectives in mind?
My objectives are always the same. To educate, motivate and inspire.
Ella--- Did you choose your genre, or did your genre choose you?
Both. I have always been committed to personal growth but at the beginning I did not believe I would write books on the subject. I always thought of writing a get rich quick type book but that is no longer my focus.
Ella--- Please describe your journey to publication. Did you experience lots of rejection? Were you tenacious in getting your works seen by those in the industry? What are some of the challenges you may had to overcome in seeing your books in print?
When I wrote my first book (1995) I was rejected by more than sixty publishers. Fortunately for me my new book was picked up by the very first publisher I submitted to. The challenge has still been that most publishers do not believe men will read my type of book. I had to trust my own instincts and follow my heart to write and ultimately publish this book because I believe in it so strongly.
Ella--- What thoughts are going through your mind now that your new book, has been released?
Now that the book has been published and has received some very positive reviews, I feel gratified that my message is being received. I'm really excited about writing the follow up.
Ella--- Are you nervous about any aspects of your book's release (such as reviews, meeting fans, talking in front of an audience)?
I'm not the least bit nervous. I'm really looking forward to the opportunity of spreading my message to as many people as possible.
Ella--- What kinds of research did you did, particularly in terms of setting, since your book takes place in multiple locations.
I really don't do research per se. I simply commit to my own personal growth and then share the lessons that I learn with others.
Ella--- Who are your writing influences? Which books have impacted you and affect your approach to writing novels?
Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra and Neale Donald Walsch have all contributed to my growth as a writer. A few of my favorite books by these authors are: You'll See It When You Believe It by Dyer. The Spontaneous Fulfillment Of Desire by Chopra and Conversations With God by Walsch.
Ella--- When you first began to think about pursuing a writing career, did you always know you wanted to write in this genre? What other types of genres, if any, do you enjoy reading? And what is it about this genre that keeps your pen to paper?
Yes. This is the genre that I am passionate about. I really enjoy books that challenge me to think and get out of my comfort zone. I have a deep passion for science because I like knowing how things work. This leads me to read books dealing with Quantum Physics, Philosophy and Spirituality.
Ella--- What are your literary plans for 2009?
My ultimate goal is to make the New York Times Bestseller list which should insure that I get on Oprah. After that I want to travel the world and spread my message.
Ella--- What are some tips for aspiring authors who are interested in breaking into the publishing industry? Please share some resources you recomend for new authors writing their first book.
The first thing is to write because you love it. Write only about things that you have knowledge of or have earned the right to write about. Find your passions and write from the feeling inside your heart. I have a great podcast on my website (www.thenewmale.com) that is titled "Do you really want to be a published author? that is a really good start if you're considering becoming and author.
Ella--- Any final thoughts or comments? Here’s your opportunity – go for it!
It has never been easier than right now in history to become a published author. There is no excuse for an author not to get published. If your book does not get picked up by a publisher you can start your own blog online for absolutely nothing. You can use your blog as a way to not only get exposure but to also practice your writing. Self publishing has also never been easier so take Nike's advice, JUST DO IT!
