HOW TO PLAN YOUR FIRST BOOK SIGNING AROUND THREE FUNERALS (1184 hits)

Delegation! Delegation! and Delegation!

Yes, Lord! I still cannot believe how my life got tipsy-turvey in just a few days short. I woke up one morning to learn of the death of a loved one. I was instantly snatched into the mourning mode when I returned from one funeral to learn about the death of a close family friend...Oh, my God!

Well, believe it or not, the announcement of another dear family member came down the pike meaning more grief and sorrow.

Now, you have to remember that I have this little brain disorder thingy, so I was probably down for the count moreso than others and it was a struggle I could not overcome. I had to succomb to the old brain chemicals that were thrown out of whack. I was also even more petrified because the main symptom I always encounter is lack of energy (can't drive)!!!!!

Facing the rituals of the family tradition of funerals took all I had, but I needed to also keep up the work for my first book signing which is scheduled this Saturday, May 23, 2009. I needed to:

Get the books to the store so they could be "inventoried" by the store;
Get my flyers copied and dropped off to the book store;
Decide on post cards design and printed and delivered to the book store;
Get my super-sized posters delivered to the book store;
Decide on my "outfit (hey, nobody helped me narrow my choices...ugh!);
Get post card invitations to the post office and into the mail; and
Send my e-blast invitations out!

Well, I will tell you that having family and friends committed to your success is essential to pulling off any book signing, but under these circumstances, I was especially blessed!

I managed to reach for the phone and get my neighbor involved to assist me at the last minute, too, because the book store had its deadline for receiving all of my materials.

I also had to respect the notice time for invited guests and especially in light of the fact that my book signing happens during the Memorial Holiday weekend -- somebody pleeease tell me who's idea it was to move Memorial Day up one week?????!

Anyway, I have just sent my e-blasts out to my personal contact list and I am about to praise and worship the Lord because my trusted neighbor did not let me down and the book store was as helpful as possible. I will be two days short of passing out flyers by foot, though, but hopefully, it will not hurt my chances of a successful book signing.

The key point here is that I was organized based on my own planned "To-Do" List and that helped the process run smoothly even considering the unexpected. So, my message to you if you are planning your book signing or upcoming event is not to procrastinate because you never, never, ever know what could happen that could end in a disaster!

So, tomorrow I hit the pavement to pass out flyers around the community of the book signing. By the way, I found a nifty jacket that matched these beautiful pants I decided to wear. There it was, just hanging in my closet waiting for the right time! Whola ~

See you next week with photos and a report on how I survived my first book signing. Please keep me lifted up in prayer and God bless you all until then...
