COLLEGE CAREERS OR SETTLE FOR RECEPTIONISTS: Do You just want a job! (2265 hits)

COLLEGE CAREERS OR SETTLE FOR RECEPTIONISTS: Do You just want a job!
College education just isn't the same
Just want a job
Would rather keep looking
Recently, I met a man who spoke of his daughter who recently graduated from college. After job searching he said she became so frustrated from being turned down time after time and not becoming hired in her college field. Finally, he said she opted to take whatever she could get. He said he was glad to see her working, but felt that she did all that education and learning only to work as a receptionist/customer service representative. Her higher education is achieving a Master Degree in Physical Theraphy. Her father is proud of her no matter what, but felt a little unsettled that she couldn't find work in her career choice.

Do you feel college education still pays if you presevere?
or Do you think college careers these days are not what they used to be?
Do you just want a job?

I think college education defintely pays, but that doesnt mean you might have to work a little harder. Or you may have to start at the bottom and work your way up. College students should do internships. Also you may have to take a medicore job in the mean time, but don't settle for that.

Thanks for your reply Yolanda, I agree with your comments. College ed does pay, and everything may not begin wonderfully overnight. I hope college students realize that and keep going strong. Even if you have to take another job, that only can broaden you employement skills. Thanks again!

I agree Yolanda. I think it depends on the person and their drive! Just because you have the degree does not mean the job is going to fall in your lap...there has to be some work behind it. That's why I think it's so important to mentor in order to prepare the younger college generation for the challenges they may encounter as they enter the job market.

When I conducted this poll, I wasn't trying to be funny at all. Jobs we know, are hard to find...and like many of you who are college students or grads, it's just so important to keep working at that. Of course, situations in employment may cause one to take on odd jobs. I hope that anyone who reads your comments will be encouraged and to keep pursuing his or her careers...and his or her dreams. Love Y'all!
