HOMETOWN MEMPHIS: BIG OR SMALL ...NUMBERS DO FALL
Big Numbers Show up to take local GED Tests! 07.24.2009
Memphis, TN
Men, women, students, and people from all walks of life are showing up in big numbers to take their G.E.D. tests during this week. Numbers are in the high 600; as the tests were distributed to all those wanting to take the high school equaliqancy tests. This proves that even if you didn't complete the high school graduation, you still can take and pass the G.E.D. There is little known reason for the overwhelming increase in taking the tests. Many Memphis accredit that the employers are seeking those that possess high school grads, and or those who have GEDs. Whatever the reasons, people are either seeking to gain a better education status so that they may continue on with their education or simply rewarding themselves with a satisfaction that they have made a change to accomplish being part of being counted in the achieving an supplement of the education process. The tests will continue through August. If you are a someone looking to take the GED, or a recent student who has dropped out, find out more about continuing your education and getting that high school reward. Call these numbers (901) 416-4840 for more information and about registration for Adult School, and for taking the GED tests.

Memphis, TN
07.27.2008
President Obama stimulus program has provided stimulus to students job seekers this summer through the W.I.N. program. Jobs available for Tennesseseans include Memphis City Schools, and University of Memphis students. Opportunity in numbers knocks from positions in the Highway Patrol and many public service jobs. ARRA funds doubled, but when all the numbers in the funding falls it's all drawn back to regular operations. W.I.N. Director, Jim Russell said the stimulus was approximately 4.9 million, and may be all used up to pay salaries to the students by September 2009. The stimulus grant will be used in employment and training.

The number of times ..
the Mayor of Memphis
Resigned?
Downtown Memphis: 07.30.2009
Memphis came out in numbers to attend the press-conference of the resignation of Memphis own Mayor W.W. Herenton. Filled with a room full of well-wishes and so longs the lobby of city hall set with a warm tone of listeners and reporters. The mayor has turned in his resignation dates at least three times. Today, he decided he will finally sign off. There was plenty of picture snapping and the people were in a pleasant tone. While out a about I questioned a few Memphians about the resignation. "How do you feel about the resignation of the Mayor? I asked.. Here are few replies, One man said.."I don't think he should go." Another said..."He's been a good mayor, but even with all his attitude, he's a man I really admire." Another citizen said: "I'm glad to see him go, it's time for a change, not meaning in harm, but I think it's about time!" Ending my little walk and talk, one man said: I think personally he's just setting the stage for Shelby County Mayor, W.C. Wharton to take his place." Officially the mayor hasn't shown any surprises to hold off resigning like he as a few number of times in the past. Approximately 300 people attended the press conference.

THE MAYOR OF MEMPHIS
When Memphis elected it's first Black mayor it was a day all of Memphis celebrated. He not only won, but had defeated the odds of making one of the first's among blacks. There had been other firsts in other cities, but Memphis was experiencing the thrill of having a first. He first took office of mayor in January 1992. Years went on, and he won election, after election, after election. Despite of his reputation, Memphians loved Wille. After a number of times postponing his resignation, today he finally decided it was time. He's most popular among Memphis citizens and I actually doubt he'll lose his opininated popularity. Well adore, and well hated is how one might describe him. He's always been approachable and frank. His snazy answers and his quick work of his speak would lead to a laugh or a cry, yet he was always a calivier of character! Memphis will never see another like Mayor of Herenton. He's for ever be known in Memphis no matter where he's headed. He's been a role model for blacks and whites and well, like I mentioned....He's the Mayor of Memphis. Peace and well wishes to you Mayor. What do you think? Send me a message or a comment. Source: Related from national and local newshttp://www.cityofmemphis.org
