Singer/ Actress, Melba Moore Was Born In New York On October 29, 1945.
Moore Began Her Career In 1967 When She Performed In The Musical, Hair. Three Years Later, She Won A Tony Award, For Her Portrayal Of Luttiebelle, In The Musical, Purlie.
During The 1970's Moore's Career As A Recording Artist Also Took Off. Her 1975 Debut Album, "Peach Melba," Earned Her A Grammy Nomination For Best New Artist.
Her 1970's And 1980's Hits Include: "Lean On Me," (A Song In Which She Held A Note For 35 Seconds), "You Stepped Into My Life," "Love's Comin' At Ya," "This Is It, " "The Greatest Feeling," "A Little Bit More" And "Read My Lips."
In 1990 She Recorded "Lift Every Voice And Sing." It is Said That Her Version Of The Song Played A Key Role In Congress Adopting It As The "Official African American National Anthem."
One Of Moore's Most Recent Film Roles Was In The Movie, The Fighting Temptations, Which Also Starred Cuba Gooding, Jr. And Beyonce Knowles.

Irma, LOL Well, I'm not gonna say Beyonce doesn't have talent, BUT, there aren't too many people who can do what Melba can do with that voice...I don't know if Beyonce has ever held a note for more than half a minute on a song, as Melba did on "Lean On Me." Melba is a PURE SOUL SINGER... We don't have those anymore.

Gaddy, I was laughing as I wrote this as I am sure someone will say I am Hating on Beyonce when in fact, I was actually thinking of how many people probably said this same thing to Melba when she was at her hight/youth? But, wisdom does tend to come with only having been through the hard times and bounced back.(smile)
